Default Hum problem on hotpoint dryer

Okay so I hear you need to check the starter motar and the motar for lint buildup if you have the "hums but wont start problem" I have started yanking screws to pull off the side panels which should not be that tough. Which side should I pull off, the power goes to the left so I suppose that would be it.

Is there some way to look up the year of the dryer with the serial number and get some general idea of the value of it before spending alot of time on something that is kind of old. I have no idea when it was built. Is there some kind of Kelly Blue Book for dryers. I hate to spend $500 for a new one but hate to waste time on something the may have limited life yet. It has run good for a family of six for a couple year now though.

Hi,

First we will need the model# and serial# of your dryer.

The side panels are not meant to come off to access the motor, your front panel assembly comes off.

Here is a good basic GE/Hotpoint troubleshooting guide to look at first:

Thanks Jake, I appreciate your help.

Model # NWXR473ET5WB
SN# LS732432A

One connection was off so there is a ton of lint in there. I will vaccum everything I see inside and then refer to the trouble shooting guide you gave me. How old is this baby? Worth dumping time and money into? Lets see if it needs a motor or not first. Any ideas I am all ears.

It was made in June of 1997.

At about 10 years old, if you use it daily or many times a day, then its better to save your repair money and buy a new dryer.

You cleaned all the lint out, and around the motor? Is it still not working?
