My GE Microwave model JE 1540GN suddenly started displaying RESET after working perfectly for 9 years. This is not the flashing reset that normally occurs after a power failure.

I have tried pressing every button and combinations of buttons and have powered the unit down (unpluged) for long periods of time. It always powers back up with RESET in the display. The interior light works fine when the door is opened and the microwave worked beautifully up until the day this happened.

I would gladly replace a part but I don't want to replace the control board only to find out it is caused by a sensor of some kind.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

That doesn't look like a full model number, did you get it right off the appliance's model and serial number tag? That is the only reliable place the complete model number will be found.

You can find tips for where to located that identification tag on your appliances at the following link:

I've never heard of any kind of sensor being responsible for such a display. You can try consulting the unit's 'tech sheet' which should with with its wiring diagram to see if there's a procedure for clearing it or an explanation of the cause, but I can only think it is a problem in the microwave's control circuit board itself if disconnecting power from the unit didn't clear it.

The company at the following link has a very lenient return policy. They even allow electrical and electronic parts to be returned - which is usually not the case elsewhere (see the second link below).

Thanks Dan,

I confirmed the model # by the tag on the inside of the microwave. It looks like it could be JE 1540GN 001. I could not find any internet hits using that number and I did using it without the 001.

I thought it might be the control board but I didn't know if there were any conditions that would cause faults. The documentation for the microwave lists various Error conditions but they are things like F1, F2, F3, etc.

I appreciate the links and I may try a control board to see if it fixes the problem. It seems that microwaves are much larger now and the cabinet was designed to fit that particular unit. It may be much cheaper to repair even if I have to replace multiple parts than it would be to modify the cabinetry.

Thanks for your help.

GE does some strange thing with their model number lists, I found a listing for a GE model JE1540GN01, it is likely the same. It's possible to search using that model number at the Repair Clinic although the following is a direct link to that model's electronic control:

LINK > GE JE1540GN01 Electronic Control

If interested, you can see an exploded view part diagram of that model at this link:

Not that I'm aware of.

That is often the case with built-in appliance's I'm afraid. I try to recommend plain, free-standing appliances if at all possible (see the following link). Then when they eventually crap out, they can be easily replaced.

Thanks Dan,

I resubmitted my problem at the GE Repair Clinic and we'll see if anyone is aware of a similar problem. If not, I'll order the control board and we'll see what happens.

Thanks again for your help.

Dan,

Thanks for your help. The control board had been on back-order but arrived yesterday. I put in last night and it worked great. After looking all over the place at microwave ovens and not finding one that would fit the cabinet hole, thiswas a great relief. I appreciate all your help! All is well at the Nichols household.

Thanks again,
