Default jkp56 Double Oven Heating Issue

I have a GE JKP56 double oven. The upper is convection. I've had all the F7 issues and they seemed to go away... but now, the ovens (both upper and lower) refuse to hold temp. They'll come up to the set temp. and then cool off. For example, to cook Christmas dinner, I set 325 Convection and when it chimed I put the turkey into a 325 degree oven. When I checked it an hour later, the internal temp. of the oven was 96 degrees... even though the readout still said "325".

Starting and stopping via the controls will sometimes convince the oven to heat, but many times it won't do anything. I've looked at the replacement Electronic Range Control (the computer guts) but have seen that little warning "*Wiring could differ from original, will possibly need to be installed by an appliance repairperson. " I am wanting to do this repair myself since many bloggers report poor GE repairs. Plus the oven is 5 years old and I hate throwing good money over bad.

So, has anyone else done this repair? AND is it imposible for the average handyman homeowner to do?

Default Model Number

Jake,

The model number is JKP56WA2WW

The wiring diagram that came with the oven says it's for models: JKP56AA, JKP56BA and JKP56WA.

I've also detected that the fan that is supposed to come on when the oven hits 161 degrees and cool the control pael is not coming on. Perhaps that is letting the upper oven heat the control panel too much and make the electronics and the ribbon cable wanky.

I've done the eraser thing on the control panel and reseated it. The oven now works again, but the fan isn't running. Is that fan 120v? I can at least test the fan outside the oven.

Thanks in advance,
Mark

Thanks,

Yes, I believe that fan is 120 volts.

That would make sense, I believe many years ago I had a service on this same issue with that fan not running.

Default Not the fan

I tested the fan seperately outside the oven and it runs. The limit switch is coming on and off - I tested that with an ohmmeter by putting the limit switch on a hot plate and it came on at about 155 degrees... But the fan still doesn't run when the whole shebang is put back together. I'm trying to trace that fan on the schematic, but it's like reading hieroglyphics! It must get power from the contol board somewhere???

Any help would be appreciated!

Mark

Yes, the power comes from the control board, its likely you will need a new control board, since you are not getting power to it.

Here is a new control board for your model:
