Glad to hear you had good luck. I have the same issue. Could you provide any info on what number you called and who you talked to. I have a Tech coming out on Monday but will cancel if I can get them to send me a board. Thanks

Default Mine wasn't the board

Our noise came from the fan motor - or at least when that was replaced it fixed the howling noise, at least for now. I called the 800 number and they ran my model through to see if it was one of the models with a 'known' board problem. It wasn't. The GE tech came out, determined it was the fan, and charged an enormous amount for the labor. And the service charge isn't deducted from the labor cost like some companies will do if you opt to get it fixed - it was in addition to the labor costs. Next time I will purchase parts on my own and install them myself. Good luck! I know how frustrating this is to hear that noise day in and day out!

Interesting.

I'm planning on getting the board - trying it and if the howling sound is still there perhaps I'll pursue the FAN motor. GE is absolutely no help - all their service reps answer everything with " we need to send out a technician" which means you're getting stiffed for $70-80 right off the bat.

It sounds like you can return parts to the web site Jake identified is a previous post. 30 day return policy.

Beats a service call charge, labor charge and trumped up parts charge.

Default Howling gone!

Jake sent me the link to buy the card - installed ( took 10 minutes ) placed new card in works like a dream. That freakin engine rev noise with the insane howling has stopped.

Now if I could only get GE to stand up and provide some type of compensation for an obvious defective card!

Default Howling gone and ice/water dispenser fixed

Well the howling is gone AND my ice/water dispenser is working again in my GE Model GSH25JFRF. My problem was two-fold and resulted in my mainboard being replaced. The howling started JUST after my warranty was up last year. No way was I going to pay $75 just for the guy to come to my door with no guarantee of a fix. The howling was intermittent but quite annoying when it happened. I tried defrosting, clearing everything out of freezer and letting things dry for a day with a fan on it, cleaning the fan blade/motor area. This past weekend my ice/water dispenser just stopped working, the light went out, and a horrible click started coming from the back of the refrigerator. I was "oh no, the compressor went". It turned out the clicking was from the mainboard itself.

I ordered the mainboard from repairclinic.com, had it in 2 days, the howling is gone and everything is working with the dispenser again.

Thanks Jake.

Lightbulb Wind Noise

You guys can count yourself lucky if your noise just started!
My fridge - GSH25JFRWW - side by side has made that noise 24 hours a day, since day 1 when we bought it 1 year ago. Reading the manual, I mistakenly thought it was a normal sound caused by opening the door or something. (Stupid huh?)
Here are 2 things I have figured out during this year of headaches:
>Empty the ice tray when it is full - sometimes this will stop it for a short time.
or
>Remove the ice tray and flip the switch behind it - leave it off for about 2 minutes - then flip back on and replace the ice tray. Sometimes this works in about 5 minutes.(For a sort time)
>>And then - sometimes nothing stops it!
We are calling today to see if board will be replaced since we also have the extended warranty.
Glad I found you guys! Maybe we can all get some sleep now.

Good luck to all!!!! wwwwrrrhhhh wwwwrrrrhhhh wwwwrrrrhhhh - lol

Default GE SS Wind

Nope.
Took him about 15 minutes (he unloaded the top 2 trays in the freezer) and he was done.
Actually, I saved the little box the part was in and he left the old part here.
Box says: WR60X10185
MTR EVAP DC
The part he left is like white marble with a 2-3 inch slim rod coming from it. There are 4 wires that run into the part:
1 - Red
1 - Yellow
1 - Blue
1 - White
I have heard NOTHING since he did this. It's just wonderful!
