Default Recall

All

I don't know where you got the information about the recall, but I just called GE and they said there as no recall on this model.

I suppose I will go spend the 100 dollars for a board, unless someone has some contacts at GE.

Later

Default Recall Part 2

I called GE back again and got another rep. She told me it was part of a recall and that they would come and repalce the main board, free of charge.

You are welcome. The appliance repair center supposed to be here tommorrow to diagnose the problem and order the parts so its a little more complicated then I thought. Since I dont live in the city the only authorized GE repair center only comes out here two days a week, tuesdays and thursdays. I called GE back and complained and am sending a letter to their corporate. They need to have better coverage. When its your refrigerator out two weeks to come and diagnose and then order parts is not acceptible. They should have the part with them and do it in 1 call and save GE some money as well.

I will update after they come tommorrow

Its not really a recall per se. Its a free replacement. I used the wrong terminology and thats my fault. A recall usually only occurs if its a safety issue, the free replacement is becausae of a defective component that isnt a safety issue.

You are welcome Jake. Glad I could help others out. I see two posters already took advantage and are getting GE to respond.

Default It's working !!!

I have my refrigerator main borad replaced today. No charge. I had to turn the freezer fan manually for about 3-4 weeks(every 3 hours).

Just like I told you folks before. I woke up and came to this post right away just because I wanted to order the mainboard online. Then I saw brew message. It was one of those lucky days

Oh, then I call GE right away too. I just couldn't wait anymore. It pissed my off badly.

I too have to turn one fan on manually by unplugging the plug for the condenser fan about every three hours, even after I unplugged the dispenser plug up above the door by the hinge. Sometimes though it will work ok for up to six hours before I have to reset it. When the technician gets here today I am going to make sure he checks both fans for damage as well as they are part of this replacement order if defective. After a week of this i am sure that they recieved some damage trying to start on low voltage over and over again.

Make sure they check both your condenser and evaporator fan and tell them you expect damage due to this problem going on for a month. You dont want them to replace board and two months later a weak fan motor goes out, because they will then say its your problem if the main board is ok.

Default Thank your brew, but...............

Thank you for your suggestion brew. I wish I read this post 3 days ago.... (I didn't think about this problem at all, so I just let the guy changed my board only)....

Well, I hope it's gonna be okay. Anyway, this is my last GE...

Oh, he checked my condenser before changing the board. So, my condenser is okay. But I don't know about the fan motor.... hum......

The GE authorized repairman just left here. Waited all day for him and he shows up after 8:00 pm. He didnt check a darn thing. Asked me what it was doing and I told him and he said yup, its the main board, so I will go back and order one and if GE has it in stock will be back next Tuesday to install it. They could of sent me or their rep the board last week when I called them and got it done in one call instead of two. He did order a new touch pad though for the trouble I been through as a free backup in case the original was damaged in any way. so I will have a spare.

He did say those motors usually dont cause no problem even if run on low voltage, unlike an AC motor that will burn up. So your motors should be fine. The evaporator one in the freezer he said is a 3 speed so it typically runs on diffewrent voltages.

Cool GE won't dispense ice

I have the same problem like jr1, by my refrigerator its a GE model pct23sgrss. I don't know where is the main control board. Any suggestions?

If you set a glass against the dispensing arm with the control panel set to cubed or crushed the motor will not turn and it shuts the freezer and fridge down. When the fridge tries to start back up there is a loud clicking noise at the rear. It could go on for 15 minutes or more before the compressor kicks in. I have found that if I turn the freezer control to 0 and then back on during the clicking the compressor will kick in. Thanks for any suggestions.
