Please check your model again, its usually located in the very back once you pull your refrigerator out from the wall, you should see it on the back of your refrigerator behind a metal panel.

Since this is my first post, let me first say that this is a very good 'Appliances Blog'. Thanks for putting it for people like me, who do not know much about appliances.

My GE refrigerator (Model # GTS22IBMARWW) stopped cooling for the last few days. It does cool but not enough. Very common problem I guess. So we had a local service technician diagnose the problem and he blamed it on the bad main circuit board & recommended us to replace it with the GE board WR55X10552. The estimate came out to be around 350$. Considering that the refrigerator is 6 years old, we have decided to go and buy a new one and keep this one in the garage. Couple of questions:

1. Which is the best "top freezer" refrigerator nowadays? With less complaints and within a budget of 400$ to 600$.

2. I'm planning to replace the circuit board myself. Is it easy enough for me to do it? Or will I need any more instrumentation? All that is after considering that the board is faulty.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Thank You
Zen

The Sears Kenmore model# starting with 106. made by Whirlpool, or the Whirlpool brand itself are very good, the least repairs I have.

The main control board on your GE is very easy to replace, it comes with instructions too.

Default GE Side-By-Side Refrigerator GSH25JFRFWW Not Dispensing Ice - Shuts Down Freezer

I had the same problem as several other members with my GE side by side refrigerator (GSH25JFRF WW) dispensing ice. A couple days ago, it stopped dispensing ice (would still dispense water ok). When you tried to dispense ice, the light by the dispenser dimmed, and the light that indicated the dispenser selection also dimmed.

There was a clicking noise from the back of the unit after trying to use the ice dispenser.

Consequently, the freezer shut down (we didn't notice it at the time) and the next morning the freezer was thawing rapidly. I called GE and arranged for a service tech to come the next day.

He came yesterday and replaced the main circuit board with a WR55X10552 board and it fixed the problem. There was no charge for the board or the service call. He told us that there was a service bulletin about the circuit boards. When he was replacing the board, I was already figuring a couple hundred dollars for the repair, so was really happy to hear that the repair was free.

We'd had the refrigerator for a little over 2 years at the time. The original circuit board has a sticker with a GE part number: 200D4854G013. Nothing on the old board looks burnt, but the transformer on the board is indeed a small one.

Thanks Jake. I bought a whirlpool model and seems to be working fine.

Regarding the main circuit board, I replaced it yesterday. How much time should I give till I can say it is working? It has been around 15 hours. The freezer cools pretty well. The food section seems to be cooling slowly. Is that normal?

Yes, It usually takes about 24-48 hours for the temperatures to stabilize.

I have the exact same model and it is doing the exact same thing. try to get ice and it shuts down the compressor. Then I have to restart the evap. fan by hand. I ordered a new main board for it. You an get them on ebay for half the price of a local dealer.

I don't recommend people getting them off ebay, because since its not an authorized parts dealer, you have no guarantee that it will work, and if it doesn't work, then you can't send it back for a refund.

If you order the board from our links here, you a full 30 day money back refund if it doesn't work.

And purchasing parts from our site helps support us to keep us running and free for everyone to use. We would hate to start charging people a membership fee to just post or access our site.
