Here's my story on the water line freeze up problem
My water line began freezing in October after 2 years of perfect operation. Since my unit was out of warranty, I followed the posts here, even submitting some of my own, with no real solution to the problem. I became an expert at defrosting, only to have the line refreeze. I finally went to the GE site and submitted an Email to customer service stating my dissatisfaction with the water dispenser. They contacted me promptly, and over the phone diagnosed that there was a problem with the insulation in the door, and they would replace it at no charge. It appears that the door was reengineered about 3 years ago to solve a moisture problem, and was made thicker, with insulation sprayed in and the door itself sealed. However, in some of the doors, the dispenser tube actually got displaced when the insulation was sprayed, placing it closer to the inside door panel, and therefore closer to the 0 degree freezer air. The new door was shipped directly to my home, and, as instructed, I called to have a technician come by to install. The only negative here is I was led to believe this wouldn't cost me anything, but I did end up paying for a service call. I hope this helps.

Chip, How did you find someone at GE that would talk with you about your problem? Thanks, Dan Hoff
