Default Water draining during fill cycle?

I have a 15 year old GE Potscrubber 720. Dishes were not getting clean so checked several possibilites and discovered that when the water is filling, the tub is not holding any water. It seems the drain is open and the water does not fill. When I shut it off, it seems that the small cup in the rear that lead to the drain fills (with backwash? the water is soemwhat murky) Anyway, I've cleaned the cup to make sure nothing was blocking the drain from closing completely. Still, when its off, water pools in the cup and when I start the cleaning cycle, it immediately drains and the water that is coming in goes straight down the drain also.

I am think that I have a faulty drain solenoid. It seems like it is working (opening and closing) just not in the right sequence.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Default Possible drain solenoid

Check the solenoid if the spring tension is poor that will cause this proplem, or if there is ware on, the housing where the flapper arm leads into the housing can also cause poor operation, of this sort or a faulty solenoid.
