Default temperature switch project

Hello

I am working on a project and am looking for thoughts or ideas anyone may wish to share.

I need a circuit or a switch, controlled by temperature, preferably adjustable, that will actuate when a predetermined temperature is reached.

Specifically, when a vessel of circulating heated water cools to 150C, I want to shut off a circulator pump. The other way of viewing it would be, when this vessel of water is heated past 150C, the circulator pump turns on.

sounds simple enough, I just haven't figured it out yet. I could, I imagine, find a circuit diagram and build the circuit and that is fine, but something must have already have such a switch in it like a dishwasher, or dryer, or water heater, vehicle engine fan...

Thoughts?

One other limiting factor is that the temperature sensor/switch must be capable of operation at up to 195C.

Whirlpool oven thermostat part #4329585 is a two wire thermostat. When set at 300 F (149 C) contact points will open when temperature is reached. Temperature range is 200 F to 450 F. After reading your post again this is probably oppisite of what you want. Temp specs. are too high for dryer and dishwasher thermostats.

Red

Thanks, I'll look into that part. I can theoretically make this "open at 300F" functionality work with a relay, provided it will physically adapt to my scenario.

Thank you.

What you're looking for is called an aquastat. Type honeywell environmental controls into a serch engine. At the webiste type in aquastat and search thru their literature.

Hi. My dad used to use 'Aquastats' which I think were made by Honeywell in that kind of application (large greenhouse boiler). They seemed to work well. Here's a link: http://customer.honeywell.com/techli...0s/60-2061.pdf

Another good source of such stuff is www.mcmaster.com they have lots of industrial and MRO supplies (they're kind of like Grainger or MSC).

An Aquastat is what it is! How silly of me. I adjust the aquastat when I start the wood furnace in the Fall and again at shutdown in the Spring; never thought about it being exactly what I wast trying to find.. Hell to get old.

Thanks Guys!!
