Default Appliance repair question

The title is pretty broad so ill narrow it down. Im a very mechanically inclined car guy that has had a wrench in hand out of the womb. I also do wiring and metal fab. Where im going with this is that id like to get into appliance repair because it will put me in my niche. I dont want to work on cars in a garage because it will take away from the joy of my hobby. I like working and modifying my car, not other peoples.

So are there any certifications, walking in the door, that an appliance repairman needs to have before getting started? Id like to throw that question out there so im not just bumbling for answers.

Thanks

If you would be working on sealed systems then you'd need your refrigeration license.

You need to be a certified Type 1 40 CFR part 82, subpart F. AHAM-NARDA Refrigerent Tech. to change Compressors or do any sealed system work involving Freon(Refrigerant Gas). I got certified on 11-17-1994 when i worked for The Montgomery Ward Service Dept.

Other than that, you need good knowledge on using a volt/ohm meter.
