Default Thermostat Swap (Single stage Cool/Heat Pump)

I purchased a TX9000TS based on many fantastic reviews, but installation proved difficult, as my system wiring configuration did not match any example provided in the manual.

Manual for New thermostat:LINKY
Manual for Old thermostat:LINKY

Some quick background on my equipment:

Existing thermostat: White-Rodgers 1F79-111
Indoor Unit: RUUD Model UBHC-17J11 (I believe single transformer Heat pump)

1F79-111 thermostat has 8 terminals:

W2, E, O/B, R, L, G, C, Y , and L (which is not used)
Leaving seven wires, no jumpers, and the changeover switch for terminal O/B set to "B" which means changeover relay energized in HEAT mode.

The wiring config does not match any examples in the new TS manual. Almost like a combo of 5 wire + 2 Transformers, but my unit has only one, and has a changeover relay, but the example for Single stage HP, leaves excess wires?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated? I can provide more detailed information if needed, including pictures, etc.

Thank you,

BT

Your new T-stat does not have a Emergency heat function, the diagram shows jumping W & Y terminal to close the contacts when heat is call for. If your system is wired so the heat strips come on in defrost, you can use the W-white wire to bring on the strips with the outside temp is lower than the heatpump can handle. You can ad a outside T-stat that breaks the contacts when the outside temp drops below the set point and sends 24volts to the heat strip relay, or simply get a 2-Stage heat T-stat. Please do not take offense, but if the T-stat is not a (Professional Grade) Honeywell or White Rogers, there will be problems. The surface mount relays in the consumer grade T-stats are poor quality, along with push button and slide switches.

I returned the TX9000TS to amazon and purchased the TX9100E which supports my 2 stage. I still had to "intelligently interpret" the new instructions as well, but the system is operating fine.

I am curious though as to the lack of selection for 2 stage systems. Are these systems not widely used? I suspect because I am in FL that heating is not that important. It's not like we get snow or anything..lol

I did stick with the Lux brand TS, though. I looked at the WR 1F97-1277, but the cost seemed excessive and I did not like the Auto Heat/Cool transition.

MorePower7701, I do appreciate the reply.

On another note, I was hoping the programmable TS would ease my supply box condensation issue a bit, but it is not as big a change I was hoping for. I think my only option at this point is to tightly insulate the supply box. This has got to be the worst year for condenstaion. We're have this problem everywhere, including most buildings at work.

I guess I'm fortunate that my registers aren't dripping, just my supply box! I keep looking at the ceiling tiles at work hoping they don't fall on my head!

Cheers,

BT
