Dishwasher KUDM01TJ - won't start
I just moved into a new home and now have trouble with the dishwasher. It does not want to start. The first time it happened I kept pressing buttons and it eventually started...this time it refuses to start. All lights come on except when I press Rinse/Dry and Hi Temp Scrub. The delay start lights come on, but it never started. Reading through the forums, I assume it is the control board and/or the control panel, but I really don't want to purchase both if I don't need to. If I hold down the start button for 5 seconds, the Rinse/Dry button begins flashing. I just found the keys to run diagnostics, but don't know what to expect, if lights flash, they won't mean anything to me. Any advice? Thanks, Joe

Wasn't paying attention, can the administrator move this thread to the Dishwasher > KitchenAid section? Sorry.

Hi Joe,
I moved this thread to the KitchenAid Dishwasher forum now.
It sounds like your control panel keypad assembly is bad.
There should be 2 more letters and a number after the J at the end of your model#.

Model Number...KUDM01TJBT0. I was uncertain of it being the control panel since the Start button actually does cause a reaction when I hold it down. Do I have to remove the stainless steel panel inner door panel to remove the control panel?
I also noticed the model number showed it as being biscuit colored...sure looks white to me. Is the biscuit color pretty close to being white (maybe a dirty white type color)?
Thanks, Joe.

Thanks Joe,
Here's the parts diagram for your model:
KUDM01TJBT0
Diagram#1 Part location #1(the 3rd one down) is the biscuit one, yes its extremely close to the white color one.
No, you don't need to remove the complete front panel just the console by taking out the #8 screws.
If your in doubt about ordering the control panel keypad assembly, you can also order the control board#11 and return the one you don't need, you will receive a full refund when you return it within 30 days from purchase.
But from doing these myself, 95% of the time its a faulty control panel keypad assembly.

I fit in that 95%...usually I don't. Part arrived expediently, I installed it in 4 minutes, and we are back in the wonderful world of automated dish washing. This good fortune isn't my usual luck...I sure hope my usual luck doesn't kick in and it catches on fire. Anyway, thanks for the advice and helping me fix my dishwasher.
