Default Ice Maker Not Working: KitcheAid Superba

    Hi,

I have read through the topics from people with similar problems (including the sticky), but as no problem is exactly the same I had some questions.

The ice stopped dropping from the ice maker. When I checked it, the ice had been pushed about 1/4 of the way through the rotation and then stopped, with the tips of the ice cubes poking over the edge of the ice tray. I removed the ice cubes and dropped them in the bucket. I believe the fingers were pointing toward the top of the fridge at that point.

After that the fingers swung back around until they were aligned with the outer plastic molding. I think that's the rest position for them (I'm still not sure where 12:00 is when talking about the fingers being at 2 or 7). Water filled the ice tray, and ice formed again. However the mechanism never tried to push the ice out. When I looked at the ice later, they didn't look like they were full size.

In reading the posts, the filter can sometimes cause the ice maker to stop working. I hadn't changed my filter in a very long time, so I bought a new one and replaced it. The water pressure from the water dispenser had never dropped, so I just hadn't thought about it. But the water pressure was fine after the filter change. I also took out the ice maker, removed the ice cubes, and let the whole assembly dry.

After re-installing the ice maker, now it just looks dead. I have a solid red light coming from the optics, so that doesn't appear to be the problem. I checked the water tube for ice, and there isn't a blockage in the line. But after putting the ice maker back in, the cycle hasn't started, and water hasn't filled the tray.

The most common problem for this seems to be the module in the ice maker. However I was wondering if there was a way to test the module before trying to replace it. Is that module responsible for starting the ice cycle? If that isn't working, will that be responsible for water not filling the tray?

Replacing the module seems to be a fairly simple procedure. I just want to make sure I don't have a deeper problem before replacing it.

    Thanks ahead of time,
    Marc

Yes, the problem is the module, I've seen this happen many times.

Here's the parts diagram for your model:

Diagram#7 Part location#35 is your ice maker module kit, it comes with a new upgraded ejector arm and ice stripper which must be replaced as well.
