Default Kitchenaid Superba Side by Side Freezer not cold

OK, we just bought a side by side fridge from a private individual yesterday. They had it stored in their garage for the past six months since they were not able to get it into the duplex they moved to. When my husband went to look at it, he plugged it in to make sure he could hear the motors, etc working which they are. So we have it here. The fridge seems to be OK. Probably could be a little colder, but the freezer side is not getting cold. I put ice cube trays in last night and they are melted this morning.

We just got it in our house around 7pm last night so it has not been plugged in for 24 hours yet. We do have an icemaker and waterline with this fridge, but do not have that hooked up only because we don't know how to at this point and were going to have my dad help with that (yet he's on vacation)

We have been searching online about what some problems could be and have no clue. I have turned the setting to the freezer all the way off for a few minutes and then back on. You can hear the motor kick in and feel air flow. But we don't know where specifically we should look for problems. So if anyone can help us and where we should start, we would greatly appreciate it!!!!!

The numbers which are on the door of the fridge side are KSRS25F & KSRB25F There is nothing on the wall of the fridge. Looks like something was there but is no longer ??

I just put my hand to the back left side of the freezer (behind icemaker) and it's not very cold air that is coming out.

    Thanks for you help

    Hi,

I hate to say this but, I always discourage people from buying appliances from a private party, especially if the model/serial tag is missing. Its almost impossible to look-up the correct parts without the full model#.

Ok, inside your freezer you will see the back panel, just take the screws out and remove it, then you can see your evaporator coils, notice the frost pattern. How much of the evaporator coil has frost on it?

A normal evaporator coil should have a thin layer of frost on the entire coil.

Also check to make sure your fan in the freezer is turning fast and also your condenser fan in the back next to your compressor is also turning fast, you just need to take off your bottom access panel in the back to see it.

Ok, I figured you would say that (regarding purchase) We didn't realize that it was missing until we got it home, noticed there was a problem and found out on this site where it was supposed to be. The numbers that I told you were on the door.

I did look and look and look everywhere on the net to find out the model number of the fridge and I'm almost 100% sure that it's the KSRS25FTSS It has a stainless steel front, and the body is black. It's 25 cu ft.

With it only being plugged in for 24 hours now, would those coils have frost on them (or should they?)

And where do I look for the fans to see if they are moving fast? I know you said the one is in the back (under back panel) but what about the freezer fan? Is that something that I;ll see by taking off the back panel?

    Thanks again

Yes, once you take off the back panel inside your freezer, you will see your evaporator fan above your evaporator coil.

Yes, your evaporator coil should have all the coils with a thin layer of frost on them all, if not, and all your fans are running and your compressor is running, then you would have a sealed system/compressor problem which would be extremely costly to repair.
