All,
I have a Kichenaid Model KTRP18KDWH05 Frig. Ser# EF0622814 Prod. 02-96 The ice maker quit working a few days ago. I found the water inlet tube completely frozen up. I cleared the ice plug with the help of a hair dryer. I then removed the water filter that is in-line from the bottom of the frig to the inlet of the ice maker. It is free and clear. I put water in the filter with a turkey baster and it went all the way to the ice maker tray. I filled the ice tray with water and it promptly made ice and dumped them in the ice bucket. I suspect the water valve is not operating, but I don't know how to test it. I'm an automotive engineer, so I have the DVOM's and understanding to test if someone can help. I also pulled the cover off the front of the ice maker module (note, I did not mess with the gear at all). I did notice about a 1/4" dark/burn type mark toward the outside of the big gear on the module. Does this mean anything? I'll take a picture of it and post for reference if necessary. Thanks for the assistance. |

Hi,
You can test your water inlet valve a couple of ways, I usually use a jumper wire to jump L & V here: http://www.applianceaid.com/icemaker-modual.html and that will energize the water inlet valve to open and let water in, if no water comes in when you jump L & V, pull your refrigerator out from the wall, then take off the lower back access panel, then unmount your inlet water valve from your refrigerator cabinet, then take off the electrical connector from the water inlet valve, then put your volt meter leads in that connector, and jump L & V again, and notice if your meter reads 120 volts. Yes, please upload a photo of that 1/4" dark/burn spot on your ice maker module. Jake

![]() Yes, its burned pretty good, looks like you'll need a new ice maker assembly, but do check the voltage to your water inlet valve first. Here's the ice maker assembly for your model, it's on sale here: Manufacturer's Number: 4317943 Jake
