Our KithenAid side by side (KSSO48FMX01) has been in use just over 2 years; it has a basic ice machine (no door dispenser). The ice machine sticker (inside cover) is dated 6/22/05 with the number 2307955 in the corner. The number on the module /motor sticker is #S 106 626679, the "dial" has the number 628358 in red, the plastic housing has the number 628135 above and to the left of the "dial" and the number 406112 is at the bottom of the assembly.
The ice maker was working great but after changing the water filter, the ice machine no longer makes ice. I emptied and turned off the refrigerator to thaw out and clean refrig. No luck after start up. I found your forum and performed the following tests: Jumped V & N - water valve opens, water flows. Tested L & N - good voltage. Shorted T & H - motor did not run. From the forum, I gather I need to replace the unit. Would you confirm my diagnosis and provide unit replacement part number? When searching the internet, I can't find my unit's part number. Also, I'm not sure if I'm to replace the entire unit or just a component. There seem to be a number of similar units available so do I need to be model specific or just find the lowest price unit? Appliance Parts Depot (apdepot.com), based locally, lists three options: an "Icemaker module and motor replacement", a "Replacement ice maker kit" and an "Icemaker add on kit; the last option being the cheapest as the module/motor assembly is no longer available. "Thefilterstoreonline.com" lists a number of similar icemakers including the Whirlpool 4317943 Ice Maker that I saw mentioned in another thread. PCappliancerepair.com has a motor-modl P/N: W10122536 that might be my cheapest option, if it's the right repair / part. Are these ice makers interchangeable? If so, is one model a better quality unit than another unit? I've noticed a few "2 years - won't work" posts. Do these units only last two years? Thanks for your help. The test procedures were very useful. |

Hi,
Yup, sounds like your ice maker module is bad, don't know why some only last a couple or years and others last more. Here's the one for your model: Part#8201515 8201515You also have the option to replace the complete ice maker when you get to that link. Its comes as a kit with the ice stripper and ejector blades, those must be replaced when replacing the module. If you order the complete ice maker, they already come installed. Jake
