Question Kitchenaid Wine Cooler KUWS246ESS0

Our wine cooler doesn't run. Compartment light comes on so it has power. Is there a way to check/change the compressor relay or check/change the thermostat? Other tips?

Hi,

Its possibly your cold control thermostat#6 here:

If you have an ohm meter you can check continuity on it, by removing the wires to it, and putting your ohm meter probes on it to see if you have continuity through it.

Unplug your wine cooler first of course.

You could also jump the wires on it to see if it starts running.

Here's the cold control thermostat for your model:

Default Wine Cooler Not Working

Jake,

Great advice, very helpful. I used a multi-meter (had to buy one!), indicated an open circuit. I jumped the leads with a piece of wire (after plugging in the cooler) and it came on. I'll order a new thermostat today.

Default Wine Cooler Not Working

I have exactly the same wine cooler and the same problem. The Whirlpool repair man jumped the thermostat to get it running but it only worked for a day. He quoted $350 to replace it.

I see it only costs $71 for the part - how hard is it to replace? Thanks!

Its fairly simple to replace, just unplug the wine cooler then take the thermostat knob off, then unmount the thermostat and put the wires on the new one as they can off the old one.

Actually it comes with complete installation instructions.
