Another KitchenAid Warm Fridge Cold Freezer Issue
I have read every forum I could find and didn't see this exact issue replicated. I have a KitchenAid Side by Side Refridgerator (KSRG25FKBT04) and the Damper (difuser?) between the fridge and the freezeer slowly ices up. The fridge warms up and the freezer ices up.
I have thawed the whole unit with a blow dryer on a couple of occassions and it always closes back up. I have dis-assembled the unit and taken both the fridge and freezer side completely apart. There are no drainage tubes or anything to clean out, so I don't know the source of the water and ice. The damper itself is just a mechanical unit (opened and shut by adjusting the Freezer warmer or cooler setting) that does not appear to have any specific electronics, so I don't really get how replacing that unit will help.
Please indicate action you would recommend I take.
Thanks

Hi,
Your correct, your air diffuser doesn't have any electronics in it like other models do, so if its freezing up that always tells me you have an air leak, check both door gaskets for proper sealing, make sure you have no rips in your door gaskets.
The warm kitchen air always goes to the coldest source first, thats why its going to your air diffuser, and causing the condensation and the ice/frost clog.

There are no visible rips or gaps in the gaskets on either the fridge or freezer side. Is there a way to pressure test for leaks?
Is it most likely a leak on the fridge side?
Any other possible causes you can think of?
Thanks very much for the help.

No.

Yes.
When did this start happening? How warm/hot is your kitchen?
During these hot summer months I see this issue happen alot, if you have no air leaks, then try to keep the doors closed as much as possible.
Any other possible causes you can think of?
Is your fan in your freezer blowing good and fast? Do you hear it strong when you open your freezer door.
Also while your in the freezer section, take some food out and look at your back panel inside your freezer, and see if there's any frost build-up on that panel.
