Default Kitchenaid Superba KUDA2207WH4 just weak

My 13 yr old SuperBa KUDA220TWH4 now does a crummy job. I notice the lower arm does not move. Where ever it was at the start of the cycle, there it is at the end. It seems to have a lot of friction.

My guess is that either the pump has somehow gotten weak (do they do that) or the plastic has gotten so rough the arm is just too tough to move.

Dishwasher appears to be filling just fine.

I'm happy to take some guesses, replace a few things, and guess some more. What should be my first guess?

    Thanks,

    Jon

    Hi,

I would start first with taking off the lower spray arm to check for gunk in the bearing were it turns. If not, then you may have to start taking the upper pump assembly off to check for gunk there as well, or a broken impeller.

    Default Now fixed.

I removed the wash arm and discovered two things: the metal washer that sits between it and the wash arm support was just plain missing; the fine mesh screen on the wash arm support was completely plugged with hard water deposits. I bought a new wash arm support from RepairClinic.com. It came with a new washer. This fixed it. The ancient KitchenAid lives another day.

    Thanks for the help,

    Jon, K6JEK
