Default KSRS25FTMS01 Auger Motor Replacement

Greetings,

I have a KitchenAid Side-by-Side that appears to have a dead auger motor (Part Number is 2252130) The refrigerator model is KSRS25FTMS01.

I believe the problem is with the motor. I have completely emptied the ice bin, and there is no movement of the auger, or any sound, or slow/partial movement of the auger (and thus no ice is dispensed). This is true for both "cubed" and "crushed" ice options. After emptying the bin, it refilled properly with new ice, it just does not dispense out the front of the door.

I've looked around these forums, and have found a very informative link to a specific job aid here that explains the basic process for removing / replacing a motor. this seems very straight forward to me. however, the problem is that my refrigerator is a newer model that has a solid freezer door lining with no access to the motor from within the freezer.

I'm wondering if the motor replacement would require me to either remove the interior panel of the freezer door to access the motor, or if there is a way to access this by removing the dispenser components on the front of the door. If the panel on the inside is the right approach, I'm worried about how this is fastened, as there doesn't appear to be any screws around the perimeter of the panel.

Does anyone know the specific steps required to remove and replace this motor on this model? KSRS25FTMS01

Thanks!

You are correct about you having the new fast fill dispenser. When this dispenser was created, they moved all the components, including the auger motor, behind the dispenser panel. It is easy enough to get to by removing the water catch tray, then the screws that hold the dispenser in place. Just keep removing components as you will find a control board and the motor back behind panel. Just pay attention as you take it apart and getting it back together will be a snap.

Default Perfect!

Wow -- thanks so much -- that was exactly what i was looking for. I was able to get right to the motor and get it out very easily.

When taking it out, i noticed that the rubber washer around the axle was a bit disintegrated (lots of black flecks everywhere). I'm not sure if that indicates anything about the condition of the motor, but thought it may provide another clue about what may be wrong. Hopefully this validates the theory that the motor is bad, as I have no way of testing it.

Yes, I'm not sure about the black flecks, I've never changed this one thats in this model before, all the ones I've changed were inside the freezer door under that middle shelf.

If you have a multimeter, you can check the voltage to the motor at pins 1 (BR/WH) and 2 (RD/WH) and/or check for resistance between the two pins. This uses a DC motor and the board simply reverses the current flow to change motor direction for crushed or cubed. I have only had 1 motor go bad, but have replaced at least 3 dispenser boards for this same failure. A couple checks could save some money and frustration.
