The screws that held my dishwasher securely to the countertop came out, but I didn't realize it. I ran the dishwasher and I think it became imbalanced, because I would get a flashing light. If I did the "High Temp Scrub/Energy Saver Dry/High Temp Scrub/Energy Saver Dry" reset, it would work again. I finally realized that the screws were missing when the whole thing tipped forward with some heavy dishes in it. I put new screws in, but I couldn't see a tab or anywhere to put them, so I screwed them in overlapping the front lip of the dishwasher and just made sure they didn't interfere with the door closing. This worked great for a while, then they fell out again (I wasn't there so didn't know) and the dishwasher door started popping open while it was running. When I got back into town, the dishwasher was not working, I replaced the screws, killed the power at the panel, and tried to do the reset sequence, all to no avail. Now, I am thinking maybe my dishwasher does not know the door is closed. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Hi,
Please double check your model# again, the model# tag is located inside the dishwasher door on the side frame. Sounds like you will need a new door latch assembly. Jake

Hi Jake,
Sorry, model # is KUDS01FLSS6. Is there a sensor of some sort in the latch assembly that tells the panel the door is open or shut? Any way I can adjust it to see if that's the issue? I really don't know if that's the problem, it was just my first thought... Thanks a lot! |

Ok,
#1 here is your console, #9 here is your door latch assembly,#12 is your door latch switches that tells the control board the door is closed(latched) or open: ![]() What I do is always ohm both door latch switches for continuity with an ohm meter. Here's the door latch assembly for your model: Manufacturer's Number: 8193830 Here's the door switch for your model: Manufacturer's Number: 8269209 But now are you have trouble with getting any lights to display in your console either with the door open or closed? Jake

No trouble with lights displaying...if I push any of the cycle or option buttons, they light up...when I push "start" they blink once and stay on. When I push the reset sequence, every light on the panel lights up.

Ok,
Then either door latch is broken or the switches aren't working. With the mounting screws falling out more than once, you may need to get more support under the counter top and make sure its lined up properly with the dishwasher frame being level. Jake

Thanks Jake.
Do you think I should replace the door latch assembly AND the switch? And is this something I can do (I'm decently handy) or do I need a repair person to come out? I really appreciate the help...this is the BEST appliance repair forum on the web, hands down! |

Thanks Superba,
Yes, I'd replace the latch assembly and the 2 switches. Don't worry, we have a special return policy here, that if you order the parts from the links we post and they don't fix the problem, you have 30 days to return them for a full refund. Yes, if you've fixed other things around your house, you should be able to do it. You just remove the console screws from inside the door, now on this model you may need to remove the entire outer door panel, since it comes all the way up to the top. Make sure your breaker is off to the dishwasher first. Jake

Hi Jake,
I replaced the door latch assembly and the dishwasher started right up. Ran through a cycle with no problem. I opened it a few hours later and everything seemed really wet still, but dishes were all clean so I dried them off and put them away. Then I noticed that there was a lot of water sitting in the bottom of the tub. So I pressed a button on the console and it didn't light. I tried another button, no luck. I tried the reset sequence, no luck. No lights. No nothing. Is it actually possible that my main panel has now gone out? Could I have done something when I took the door apart and then put it back together? Thanks for your help! |

Hi again,
One other thing I just thought of...when I took the old door latch assembly out, I noticed that somebody had previously put duct tape on the two tabs beneath each sensor (each sensor fits over a small post and then you put the little screw in to hold it in place, beneath that small post is a tab that I guess helps hold the sensor in place...that's where the tape was). I assumed that the sensors had been loose, maybe moving down a bit when the latch made contact, so somebody had put the duct tape in there to act like a shim. I figured it was irrelevant since I was replacing the whole latch assembly. Don't know that this matters, but thought I should mention it. Oh, and I didn't notice that there was any sort of a gasket around the door frame...is there supposed to be, to keep heat/moisture out? Thanks again, Jake. |
