Unhappy [FIXED] Freezer warm ... not working.

I have a KitchenAid Superba KSRS27 side by side freezer/fridge that just stopped working. By that I mean the freezer started getting warm last night. I thought the door might have been left ajar- but this morning water not ice came gushing out of the ice dispenser.

The freezer fan ( that blows air over the coils ) was running- I could feel that by placing my hand on the freezer back wall. But the compressor did not seem to be running.

Lurking here previously solved a problem I had with the "freezer cold; fridge warm" problem. Replacing the mechanical shutter between the fridge and freezer walls solved that brilliantly.

Alas it is time to pony up a fiver and support your site for problem number two.

It looks like I need to replace the starter relay. I took that off- it did rattle, and have ordered a new one from the clinic.

So here is my question- I have three not two wires running to the relay ( red, white and blue ). The red was connected at one end of the relay and white and blue (close) together at the other end. The thread I read described only two wires: red and white. Is this covered in the instructions for the part?

Thanks for the help. Your site is a great resource.

Lefty

Hi Lefty,

I will need the complete model# to link to you too the correct one for your model.

The model# tag is located inside the refrigerator section on the upper walls or ceiling.

I also ohm that compressor start relay out for continuity even if it doesn't rattle.

Do you have a volt/ohm meter? If not you can get a cheap one from Radio Shack.

Default Problem solved

Just to resolve this, the model number is a KSRS27IKSS01. The starter relay was definitely the culprit. Very easy fix after all, but required studying the instructions for a moment to sort out which part to use from the kit (there where choices depending on whether the compressor was an **80 or **90.

Anyway- its up and freezing!!!

Thanks.

Lefty
