Default Bad flapper valve or motor problem (or both!)

I have a Kitchenaid KUDP01FLSS6.

Dishes are a bit dirty after a cycle, and often there is detergent left in the reservoir, though the detergent door is always open at the end of the cycle.

The fitrst thing I checked is the flapper valve / chopper assembly described in detail in this post - [FIXED] Kenmore Dishwasher goes to next cycle before water full

The chopper is fine, and the rubber check valve seems fine, though very flimsy. After researching this blog and every resource I could find - how can you tell if the flapper valve needs replacement? It is a cheap part that is easy to replace, but why waste the time if it's not necessary?

Also, the motor has become quite loud - sounds identical to the problem decsribed in post Whisper Quiet DW not quiet anymore. It is loud the whole time the dishwasher is running.

Would you replace the check valve first then the motor? Or would you replace both, since it's likely the motor is bad?

Also, do you think this series is kind of a lemon? There seem to be a lot of problems on these models at a relatively young age.

Last - I am new to repairing my own appliances, but have replaced my icemaker and a door latch - easily - after reading your blog. This is a very empowering blog - THANKS!!

Hi,

If the flapper is curved and not straight up & down, when you have it out, then its bad.

It sounds like your motor may be bad.

Here's the wash motor assembly for your model:
Manufacturer's Number: 8534942

8534942

Here's the sump/wash motor assembly for your model(Comes complete with motor already installed):
Manufacturer's Number: 8535150

8535150

Here's the repair manual for your model:
https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/52521bdbd0ef763c85256cbc00520548/$FILE/8178022.pdf

Page 17 Read 1-4 where it says this to change the motor:

SERVICING COMPONENTS INSIDE THE WASH TUB
Removing the Inner Feed Tube and
Lower Spray Arm

Then on Page 21 it starts to get into detail of how to access the rest where it says this:
Accessing Components of the Sump Assembly
