Self-cleaning oven problems
Brand:
KitchenAid
Age:
6-10 years
A few years back I could not use the self-cleaning feature on my oven, so had a repair man come to fix it. He said some wires were melted together and fixed it. For the last several months I have not been able to lock the oven to use the self-cleaning again. In addition, now when I use the oven for regular baking, after it reaches 350 I get an error message (unfortunately I'm not at home and can't get the error message now) and the oven goes off. Sometimes if I reduce the heat, the oven will function properly, or if I put it on convection (at 300) it will usually work. What's wrong?

Hi,
We would need that error code first to see what the cause is.

Finally got home so I could turn the oven on. The cleaning error code came on less than a minute after I started the clean cycle - after several clicks when the oven was trying to lock, I think. The code is F5:E1. Then I turned on the oven to regular bake. About 2 minutes after the 350 temp was achieved I received the error code of F7:E0 and the oven went off.

Ok, both of those error codes say its the door latch/lock assembly thats bad.
Here's the door latch/lock assembly for your model you can order here:
WHIRLPOOL 9782611 Oven Lock Assembly, AP3178818 | AppliancePartsPros.com

#7 is the oven latch/lock assembly, I have replaced a few for these same error codes/issue your having.
Its located in the back of you range, so you would need to pull it out from the wall and remove the back access panel, then you will see it towards the top. Unplug/Turn your breaker off to your range first.

Went to the site you listed and got the message that the part is unavailable. Do you have to back order it? Why does it say Whirlpool when my range is a KitchenAid? We don't think we can do the repairs, so about how much would a repair man charge? If we told a repair person that you said what needs to be replaced, would he be able to get the part, or should we have the part when he comes?

KitchenAid is a divsion of Whirlpool.
If you call a tech. to come out they will need to order the part and install it.
I wouldn't buy from that company, a few members have reported getting faulty parts from them.
