Major leak from under door KUDS230BWH0
Brand:
KitchenAid
Age:
More than 10 years
I have a KitchenAid KUDS230BWH0 dishwasher that is overflowing badly from the door. The float switch is working, closes the valve when triggered and then starts heating the water. When heating is complete and the wash cycle starts, water start pouring from the bottom of the door. There does not appear to be any real type of seal on the bottom of the door other than on the top edge of the kick panel. I've read that there should be a vent somewhere that prevents pressure build up...that sounds like the issue...pressure builds when the wash cycle begins and displaces the water through opening at bottom of door? This started happening all at once. Parts diagrams show a baffle at the bottom of the door...is that where it vents? How do I remove it? Diagram shows a screw but I don't see one inside.
Thanks for any help!!

The float switch is more of a safety device. It sounds like your machine might be over filling since it happened all at once. First check to be sure the dishwasher is pumping all the water out during the drain cycle and it isn't leaving standing water inside the tub. Start the machine and time the fill cycle. It should be about two minutes. The control board controls the fill time. If the machine is draining all the water out then you'll need to determine if it's a fill valve issue or control board issue. Sometimes fill valves will stick open. If the machine is still filling after two minutes you'll need to check the voltage to the fill valve. If the fill valve is getting 120 VAC for longer than two minutes the control board is probably faulty. If after two minutes the valve continues to fill with no voltage applied, replace the fill valve.

Yes, it is pumping all the water out. I measured 120 volts at the valve for exactly 2 minutes, heard a relay open on the controller and the voltage went to 0, but the valve remained open and continued to fill. After another 20 seconds of it filling I started to panic, and manually tripped the float switch, which of course did nothing since the voltage was already at 0 on the valve. So I whacked on the valve a couple times with a screw driver handle and it shut off. I guess I'll be looking for a valve.
Thank you!!

Thanks Rick,
I ordered the valve you referred me to, installed it tonight and problem solved. Tomorrow I'll get started replacing all the ceiling panels downstairs and hope that's the end of this little saga.
