Default No lights on keypad (sorry for duplication!)

    Model Number: KUDK03FTSS2
    Brand: KitchenAid
    Age: 1-5 years

I apologize for the duplication of an already covered topic but I am looking for some help as to where to start in the hope of saving some time.

Last night when my wife went to run the dishwasher none of the lights on the control panel lit up. Below is a description of as far as I got.

Dishwasher is a Kitchenaid right around 5 years old with the hidden keypad on the top of the door. I'm afraid I never had time to check the model number.

    1. Switched breaker off and on (no luck)
    2. Took off bottom panel retrieved tech sheet (attached)
    3. Checked that power was going to dishwasher (it was)
    4. Thought I'd start with the keypad check (attached)
    5. Removed door cover (torx screws) to get to control panel (at least that is what I think I was looking at, it is a printed circuit board).

It is at this point one of my kids wakes up with severe abdominal pain and the dishwasher takes a backseat!

Having got to work this morning I have had a chance to read around about thermo fuses etc. I guess I am wondering what my best course of action is when I get home tonight.

Do I continue with the keypad check?
If so, am I in the right place? I don't remember seeing a keypad ribbon connection. Where would that be?

Is there a better way to go?

Thanks for all your time, Steve..

We would need the model# of your dishwasher first before we can assist you.

Click here: Appliance Parts at RepairClinic. 125 Brands. 365 Day Returns.

Then you will see a link that says: Help me find my model number.

It sounds like the thermal fuse went out.

A quick search by model number and thermal fuse yielded this result.

Thermal Fuse W10258275 Order now for same day shipping. 365 day return policy. RepairClinic.com

I saw the video about testing the current fuse for continuity so I guess that would be a good place to start. Where is the fuse located? Is it up inside the door with the controls or somewhere under the dishwasher?

Thanks again for any input, Steve..

Yes Steve, thats your thermal fuse.

Its inside the console control panel, its #3 here: Control Panel parts for Whirlpool KUDK03FTSS2 - AppliancePartsPros.com

Turn the breaker off to your dishwasher first, then remove the console screws#4 in the parts diagram, then that console should come out so you can ohm test that thermal fuse, remove the wires from the fuse first.

Thanks. Took it out this morning and sure enough there is infinite resistance across it. I will try and pick one up in town today.

    Ok, sounds good.

You MUST install the new wires that come with the thermal fuse kit, if you don't it will keep going out.

Part installed (using the new wires). Dishwasher working again.

Jake, I can't say thank you enough. Like most everyone these days saving money where we can is a real help.
