I have a Kitchenaid model: KTRS22EMBL00 (freezer on top, water dispenser inside the door)
Probably about a year ago (when the unit was only a year old), the water dispenser and ice maker stopped working. I disconnected the water supply, put it back and somehow, they both started working again after messing around a while. About 8 months later, the water dispenser stopped working again, but the ice maker does continue to work. When I hit the button to get water, I can hear the pump kick on to dispense the water, but nothing comes out. I have disconnected the water again to no avail. I took a look at the back, but did not necessarily know how the water inlet valve worked to mess with it much. Water does not dispense with or without the water filter in place. Any suggestions? Thank you! Jeff |

Ok, pull your refrigerator away from the wall, un-mount the water inlet valve, leave the water supply line on it, take off the plastic water line from underneath that water inlet valve that goes to your front water dispenser, get a small bucket and put it underneath that water inlet valve, Have someone push the water dispenser lever in the front, if it shoots into that bucket, that means your water inlet valve is good.

I pulled the hose out of the water inlet valve and hit the dispenser button and water does come out of the inlet valve at a good pace. So I guess that rules out the water inlet valve. Is there another valve inside the refridgerator to check? I am not really sure what goes on past the inlet valve and where the water is actually dispensed. Do you happen to have any other suggestions? I appreciate your help. Thank you! Jeff |

I took off the top of the refrigerator and saw that there is just a massive coil of water piping that holds the water to keep it cold. Since that was pretty much the only thing there, I just put a warm wash cloth on it with the unit unplugged and after a few minutes it was working again.
I guess that explains why it randomly started working 8 months ago. Thank you for your help! Jeff |
