I have a side by side Kitchen Aid Superba #KSRS25QAWH01 built in 1994. The interior lights come on, but it is warm inside and the fan & compressor will not start. Sliding the temp control switch side to side will not produce a relay click either. Seems like everything is "dead" but the interior lights do work. It was working fine earlier in the day.....help !!

Here is the parts diagram for your model:
KSRS25QAWH01 Its either the defroster timer thats stuck in defrost, bad control thermostat, compressor start relay/overload or bad compressor. I would first turn your defrost timer with a flathead screwdriver, and see it if the compressor comes on, its located in diagram#3 part location#6 if you look underneath your control console, you will see a hole you can turn it through. Try that first, if that doesn't make the compressor come on you will need a volt/ohm meter to test the other parts. Here is a helpful link to read through too: http://www.applianceaid.com/refrigerator.html#clicking Jake

Jake,
Thanks for the reply. My defrost timer doesn't look like that, and there is no place to stick a screwdriver in to turn the timer. My timer looks like it is solid state and has an Omron relay looking thing on the top. Any other ideas? |

OK, then your model# wasn't correct, the one with the solid state defrost control board is this model:
KSRS25QAWH11 On this model, you would need to check to see if you have 120 volts to your control thermostat and also ohm it for continuity, if that checks good then your would need that defrost control board on diagram#3 part location#6. Here is also the service sheet on this model to test the defrost control board: http://www.servicematters.com/docs/w...%202176725.pdf Jake

Jake,
I double checked the model number, and I wrote down the correct # the first time. However, mine has the solid state defrost timer. Right at the defrost timer, I jumpered the black wire to the orange wire, and everything started and worked fine. Does this mean I need to get a new defrost timer board? |
