Hello All,
I've had a Maytag Neptune washer model: MAH4000AWQ with virtually no problems what-so-ever for 6 years... until last weekend. Clothes were coming out soaked, and the washer seemed to go through all the cycles. After closer analysis, the spin cycle was not spinning.
Contacting Maytag was no help at all. I was out of warranty, and the troubleshoot guy had no recollection of any known problems... come to find out he wasn't so honest.
After searching the web, I found out the wax motor (located by the door latch) was the culprit... which then caused the control board to fry the R11 resistor. Basically when the wax motor went bad, the machine couldn't tell if the door was locked. Therefore no lock light and no spin cycle.
Needless to say, I also found info on a class action law suit regarding this very issue. (Don't bother looking into the law suit, claims needed to be filed by August of 2005.) So, like me - you won't get any compensation from Maytag. Trust me I've tried.
$21 for the wax motor
$190 for the control board
Self installed, and the machine is back in working condition.
Based on the condition of your control board & your soldering skills, you can opt to repair the board. However you will need to purchase the wax motor. Searching for "maytag wax motor kit" should get you there. There may even be a link from another thread.
I must say, my wife loves this washer. However; I am very disappointed with how Maytag has handled this issue and will not stand behind a faulty design. And for this reason I find it highly unlikely any Maytag product will end up in my home again.
