Default Maytag Neptune leaking (another one)

I have a Neptune model# MAH5500BWW. I have water leaking from the bottom of the machine, all over the floor. I have decided that the drain pump is not working because I cannot hear it. I hear a relay click sound when it is supposed to come on, but no 'sucking' noise.

I am going to pull off the front panel today just to make sure that is where it is coming from, but how do I know the pump is bad and not the control panel? Are there any steps with the control board or a VOM to test the pump? The control panel was replaced under warranty last year for a different issue.

Thanks for the help, and by-the-way, this is an awesome forum. I have been reading posts all day yesterday and have to say that there are some very knowledgeable, friendly people here. I'm definitely going to hang around here.

Hi,

You can take off the wire connector at the water pump, and put your volt meter leads in both sides, and turn the machine on pump out, it should read 120 volts.

You will have to close the door to start the pump out(drain).
If your getting 120 volts then your pump is bad, or something is stuck in it.

Thanks for your kind words, Glad you enjoy the forums here!

Jake

Thank you for the quick response. How do I start a 'pump out'? Is it on the diagnostic sheet under the control panel? The only things I know about this washer I have read here.

I have been just hitting the start button, the pump used to cycle for a second before the washer started. A pump out proceedure would be excelent because I have a tub full of water/clothes.

Thanks again for the speedy help.

I'm sorry for asking the dumb question. I found the troubleshooting guide behind the control panel, and figured out how to force the pump on. It worked fine. It wasn't coming on the other night, but now it is. Maybe it is about to go out. Who knows.

Now I have a different problem. I took the front panel off to watch things and figure out where the water came from. I found it. The door seals up to this giant grey ring, which has a hose connecting it to the tub. That ring has a 1.5 - 2 inch gash cut in it.

The guide that I have does not name that rubber ring thing. Can you guys tell me what it is? I will call the parts house tomorrow, I just wanted to know what to tell them.

Thanks again for having this site and thanks to all the great people that live here.

Jeff

It's called a "Door Boot Seal Kit", Maytag part number 12002533, runs around $50. Full step-by-step instructions (if not supplied with it!) are at:

Thank you very much. I called the place that we bought it from and they were supposed to put a service call in for us. They are really nice people and extend the warranty past the purchase (we just paid off the washer/dryer pair).

I will let the service tech replace the boot, that doesn't look like a fun job to take on for my first appliance repair. However, if for some reason they want to charge me, then I will be doing it myself and your directions appear to be excelent.
