Default Maytag MZD2766GEB Cyclic warming in the refrigerator

First let me say, this is a great forum and I thought my problem was the same as many of the Maytag not-cooling posts, but it appears to be different.

Many mornings (it might be daily) when I go to open the refrigerator the temperature is 65-70 degrees. The freezer temperature appears to be fine, as I have a thermostat in both. But, after I open the refrigerator door, it seems to kick start cooling the refrigerator again and within 30 minutes it is noticably cooler and within a few hours, it is 38 degrees like it should be. The temp will be fine all day or even 24 hours, then all of a sudden it will be 70 degrees again. It seems that if it was just the refrigerator turning off, it wouldn't be that warm so quickly, it is almost like it is being heated to 70 degrees.

The basic things that have been checked are:
1. The door being closed
2. The coils are not frozen
3. No condensation problem
4. Freon is fine

From reading the other problem descriptions, it appears that their temperature problems are constant, not changing from good to bad to good every day.

Any suggestions here would be greatly appreciated

Geoffry

So with just opening the refrigerator door, the refrigerator/compressor/fans starts running?

It seems to start the refrigerator cooling, I actually don't remember whether the fan/compressor was running already or not. I will check the next time I open the refrigerator in the morning or after any long period of inactivity.

In the mean time, I went ahead and replaced the adaptive controller. It took me forever to even figure out where it was hidden.

Ok,

Yea, that adaptive defrost controller can be tricky to locate, here's our main thread on it in case others need help finding it too:

Default Thought I had it for a minute

The same symptoms still. I came home from work this evening and my refrigerator was 70 degrees, the freezer was slightly above 0. So obviously the controller I changed didn't do the trick.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Default an added note

I forgot to add, that when I walked up to the refrigerator, a motor was running. I can't tell you whether it was the fan in the freezer or the compressor. There was also a mechanical type smell, something like a heater element or a motor running, etc.

And again, after opening the door, it started cooling again immediately and within a couple of hours it was back down to 38 degrees

This is something I've never seen happen before, I would suggest calling the pros out on this one.

Default Call the Pros, lol

That is what got me here in the first place. I have had two "pros" come out and neither could fix the problem. One actually charged me for something that didn't work and the other at least admitted that he didn't know and didn't charge me for anything.

I think I am on my own for now.

Do you think that the Control Assy Temperature has a chance of doing it?

No, because then you would notice your freezing not freezing and the temp. in your freezer rising up.

You know this may sound stupid, But I'll say it anyways, because I've seen it happen a couple times in my 20 years of appliance repair.

Here goes: It sounds like your light bulb is somehow staying on when your door is closed, and with a light bulb on giving out heat, it can make your refrigerator section go to 70 degrees.

Just for giggles, take out your light bulb and see if it still gets to 70.

Default I will try anything

Jake,

I had looked at that already, but at your insistence, I did check it again.

And after a bit of fooling with the door switch, I was able to get it to stick.

It's a good thing that the website was out of stock on that control assembly, because I would have ordered it already too, lol.

So, let me find a new switch and I can verify if this was the real solution.
