Default Maytag Ice maker odd noise and no ice

Hey Jake

My 13 month old Maytag refrigerator model MFD2561HEQ has ceased making ice. Previously when something blocked the upward travel of the 'bar' that shuts the ice making off, a noise would eminate from outside the fridge directly behind the icemaker. Removing the obstruction would cease the noise.

Starting two days ago the noise is present, ice making has stopped, the bar is in the down position with nothing blocking it's travel and it moves freely.

Having read through historical posts of similar issues here I see that the filter could be the cause and I will change this today. In the meantime do you have a service/repair manual for this unit? In case I need to replace the icemaker.

Regards
Pat

Hi Pat,

Feel inside your ice maker with your fingers to see if all the cube slots are full with ice, I've seen only a few full and the rest dry, that was cause this kind of problem your having now.

Jake
I replaced the water filter with no effect on my problem. I felt around the ice maker and it seems that there are empty slots where ice should be.

Any suggestions for next steps?

Do you have a service manual for this unit?

Pat

So tonight I am in the kitchen cooking and contemplating my ice maker issue, all the while listening to the noise, and out of the blue I hear it fill with water and the noise stops and it appears to be again making ice.

What is/was the issue?

Thats odd, glad its working again.

Make sure your water pressure to your refrigerator is good, if you found empty cube slots in your ice maker, that tells me that your water pressure to your refrigerator is low.

Default I think the filter was the issue.

Jake

Then I would say it was the water filter as I noticed a BIG difference in the flow of water from the water dispenser after changing the filter and on closer inspection we are +1 filter from where I would expect to be, meaning I missed changing it last time it was due.

Thanks again

Pat

Sounds good Pat.

Here's the water filter for your model, in case others need to order it as well:
Manufacturer's Number: UKF8001AXX
