I have a Maytag dryer (model LDE5914ACE) that just started making a rumbling noise when it's running. The dryer seems to be drying the clothes okay but the noise (and a little vibration) doesn't seem to be a good thing.ffice
ffice" />I've looked on the forum and other places (http://www.applianceaid.com/maytag-dryers.html#noise) and everyone seems to indicate it should be the fan blower. I've taken the dryer apart to the point where I can see the fan blower -- I haven't taken it off yet. I expected the fan blower to be wobbly or not fitting tight but this is not the case. Could my problem still be the fan blower or is something else making the noise? How do I tell? Should I continue taking the fan blower off to replace the blower wheel? How do I actually know if that is the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Brian |

The blower wheel has a 3/4 moon shape to it. If it is FIRMLY on the motor shaft, this is not the problem ( can turn motor and drum easily with no loose feel to blower wheel )
Other possibilities include the 2 rear roller wheel supports, and the idler pulley for the belt. If they get dirty they can make a kind of grinding noise. Remove the belt and drum, and turn them by hand and give 'em a spin. They should spin freely with minimal noise. Hope this helps. |

Brian, One other thing with the rollers. If one of them does seem to be making noise or it seems loose, do this also. Very carefully remove the plastic triangular clip that holds the roller on and look at the shaft. If it appears to have a shiny spot on one side it should be replaced along with the roller. That is an indication of wear which might conceivably shorten the life of the new roller. Also look along the crease on the drum where the rollers ride. If you see black spots it is buildup from the rollers. Use a putty knife and carefully remove it. I know it seems insignificant, but it can help to quiet the dryer somewhat since it does actually hinder the smooth turning of the drum.
