Unhappy Wiring for Water Valve Maytag

This is a REALLY dumb question..
I have been given a built in Maytag DW. The prior owner is one of those people who tries to fix his own, screws it up, then gets a new one instead of just paying a service call. I desperately need this machine, but I am church mouse poor. Can't afford to pay a dime for repairing it right now.
Previous owner told me it was leaking, he thought it was the valve. I see that he tried to remove the valve, then replaced it and stopped. I can't find the WIRES for it.
Meanwhile, I found that the pump out hose was cracked at the bend, inside the shell, which likely was his leak. Sigh.
NOW, I have this water valve which has an orange solid wire to one of the two spade connectors on it, and NO wire on the other spade connection. There is no wire in sight which appears to belong to it. I am baffled. There is also no wiring diagram in sight. I have NO clue what I am looking for. Is it a simple ground that I can just run to a ground on the body of the machine? Or is it a specific wire I am seeking? I can't see any that look like they are not connected. HELP?
The model number is DWU7400AXX
Thanks..
Christine

Hi,

Nope, its not a simple ground wire, it has to be part of the machine wiring, thats very odd that its no where in sight, he might have cut it, check for a wire with no metal spade end on it.

Hi all,

Will likely need to ask Maytag for a new diagram as it doesn't appear to be online ( model# appears wrong as well ).

Default Oops

Corrction: Model number is DWU7400AAX Sorry, I messed it up.

NOW! I have searched far and wide, traced every wire. I find NOTHING for a second wire on this valve. The wire that is BLUE in this photo is ORANGE in mine. There IS no black wire that I can find. There is a brass looking part behind the orange part where the spade conncections are. There is a green ground wire attached to IT. I am lost. Thanks. Christine.

Very strange, You might try to go to your local appliance parts store, they may have a wiring diagram to help you out. Or go to a appliance junk yard to look at a Maytag like yours to see the wiring, lots of local appliance shops have a massive appliance junk yard, I know here in my city, there's tons!

Default Um.. see if I'm right...

The orange wire in my photo above, is a hot wire. The black wire is neutral. This means that it shouldn't matter which post which wire is on, as long as the two of them are both attached, it should complete that circuit. Right? Now: If I essentially CREATE the black wire you see in the photo, and attach the other end of it to any neutral post, it should complete the circuit to that valve, no?
The float switch is just in front of this water valve, and the hot wire goes into it, then from it to the water valve. All orange wires. The other, "bare" post on the valve MUST have had a wire that was a short one, with spade connectors at both ends, just run to another neutral spot. I can't find anywhere that it might have been connected but I am assuming this is the deal. Am I close?
I like the idea of going to a appliance junk yard and picking it for parts and examples, but there is no such option here unless I drove two hours. I live WAY out in the stix. I have an older portable Maytag that is dead, but the valve in it is much simpler than this one, the unit is much older. Still, I can steal wire etc. That one appears to have one wire to a hot connection, the other to a neutral.
I sat this thing up in the yard and hooked the garden hose and an extension cord to it to see if it leaks, burns up, whatever. It makes all the right noises, but no water is entering the cabinet. ZERO. THe inside looks clean, the arms don't LOOK plugged up, the float switch was a little corroded, but moves freely. I hand moved it, doesn't seem to make a difference. I am about to put water inside, and test to see if the pump empties the unit. Still baffled about supplying the water, that valve really mystifies me.
Thanks for your thoughts.
Christine.
