Default Maytag MDG6657BWW Long drying time

First, thank you for the forum, and all the help. My dryer takes a long time to dry, so with some help from reading some of the posts here I took a look. With the front cover off, and starting the dryer, the igniter glows bright, then goes out, I hear what sounds like a solenoid open, then the igniter glows again bright, and just as it starts to dim, the flame lights. The flame burns for about 30-45 seconds, then goes out. Then the process repeats. Have to grab a meter from the truck in the morning to do some of the tests I have read here. Any ideas? Thanks again

John

Hi John,

Sounds like the gas coils have gone bad, this is a common part to go out in gas dryers with this issue.

Here's the gas coil kit for your model:
Manufacturer's Number: 279834

Here's a help link also, and a guide to access the gas coils:

Default more problems

Jake,
Thank you for the quick reply. After posting last night, I disconnected the vent, (it just runs through the wall) and put in a load of jeans. I set the timer for more dry, started and went to bed. This morning the timer was exactly where I set it last night. Do I have multiple problems? Thanks again.

Was the clothes dry? was the dryer still running? was the timer on auto or timed dry? this issue just started?

I just thought from your first post you have a no heat issue.

Hi Jake,

The clothes were dry this morning, the dryer was set to Regular, Auto, More dry and did not move at all. I talked with my wife this morning, she usually runs the washer and dryer, and the problem with long drying times as been the issue. She also said a couple of times the dryer never shut off. Been a issue for the last couple of weeks it seems. Sorry about the different problems. Any ideas on the dryer not shutting off? and timer not moving?

John

Could be 2 things, either you have a vent restriction in the exhaust hose/pipe that goes to the outside of your home, or your timer is bad.

To test which one it is, pull your dryer away from the wall, then take off your exhaust hose, then dry a load on that same cycle, open some windows so it doesn't get to hot in your laundry room. If the timer moves and it works normal, then you know its a vent restriction to the outside of your house. If the timer doesn't move, you need a new timer.

Here's the timer for your model:

Default it is fixed

Jake,
Thank you for your help. Following your advice I changed out the coils and that fixed the heating issue. Then I changed out the timer and that fixed the dryer not shutting off. For about $90.00 and a couple hours of my time our dryer is fixed. I couldn't have done it without your help. Thanks again.
