Default Magic Chef - RT202T

For some reason, our refrigerator decided to die last night. The freezer works fine, but the refrigerator is kaput. I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for as far as what the problem is. I could use any input or ideas.

I did some reading through the forums, especially on this thread, so I will probably try the suggestions there. But to note, though I don't know if this would have anything to do with it, the fridge did cause a circuit to break at some point over the weekend. It's done it before in the past, only because this house is very old, but I don't know if that might cause something to stop working or what.

Hi,

Please check that model# again, its saying thats its not a good number.

Check for frost build up in the freezer on the lower or back panel.

This link will help you more:

Default Magic Chef sxs bought in 1999

A bag of ice melted and froze the bottom sliding drawer completely closed - like a block of ice - it covered the vent into the fridge, etc.
I got the ice out and freezer works fine -but fridge is not cooling -
what do I look for?

You would need to make sure you don't have an ice/frost blockage in your evaporator/defrost drain pan area, and make sure your defrost heater glass is not broken.

Remove back freezer panel and look for frost buildup. If so you have a defrost problem. Without a working model # it is hard to tell where the defrost timer is.
Look for a black box mounted behind the back panel and turn the middle recessed shaft till the fridge goes into defrost. If heater in freezer now turns on you have a bad defrost timer, if not you have a bad defrost thermostat or heater.
