Default Maytag Adaptive Defrost Control schematic

Where can I find a schematic for a Maytag Adaptive Defrost Control Board P/N 61005988? Mine failed and I installed a new one, refer works fine now. I want to find the point of failure on the old board and possibly repair it for "shelf spare".

Richard

Hi Richard,

Thats a good question, I know the Refrigerator has its on wiring diagram, but i wouldn't know where to get one for that board only, As I just replace those boards with new ones, like you just did.

Maybe Jeff, Dan O., Mad Mac or anyof our membersknows, can help answer that.

Jake

Hi all,

I doubt even Maytag has the ins and outs of the board as they just buy them from thier distributor/vendor.

You could try the board manufacture...Siebe Appliance Controls.

[sup]Thanks Jeff, [/sup][sup]I searched the Siebe site and they do not seem to have any tech data about their products, just sales pitches as to what they build. I found the datasheet for the microprossesor (220 pages!)and the two TO-92 transistors (2 pages)on the board at DigChip.com. They have the most comphrensive listing of electronic components I've ever seen. You have to login to a FREE registration to download the data sheets. They respond with a P/W via e-mail. [/sup]

[sup]I am going to try to develope a schematic from the foil side of the board, I hate to do that but it's not a very big circuit. I have a feeling that the driver circuit for the relay failed or the relay contacts failed, and willnot energize the heater. I could hear a buzzing noise from the ADC and it sounded like arcing or a DC relay with AC on the coil. It's a 24V DC relay with 10A contacts, (JW1FSN-24V)which could have failed. I've checked all the diodes and they seem to be ok.[/sup]

[sup]If I find a schematic I'll post the location here.[/sup]

Richard, did you ever find or draw out the schematic? I had similar thoughts about doing this especially since the replacement board lasted less than 6 months.

That is very unusual but the replacement part should usually be warranted for one year. Check with the part supplier.

If you're interested, you can purchase an optional lifetime warranty for most of the parts the following dealer sells.

Guys,

I fail to see cost justification in repairing an inexpensive board, less than$50 retail, then you would have to make good on any future failures. When pricing a repair, flat rate or cost plus, the cost of a new board is taken care of. Then the part is then warranteed for one year by the manf.

Default Maytag ADC schematic

I drew a schematic and found a few things.

If the relay buzzes, C2 is bad 22uF@50v

I replaced both electrolytic caps with (sealed) tantalums (hard to find 22uF@50v)

Observe polarity, also note C2 (-) is connected to L1 120v HOT

also note neither the compressor nor defrost heater will work if the temp control is set too low. (the relay will still energize)

Thanks for the schematic. I own the MSD2757 Maytag and have the issue of the defrost not working. I replaced the heater first (w/o fully checking it out first - duh!) only to find my freezer still frosting up. I know it is the Adaptive Defrost Board but I have yet to find the info on exactly where this is located in the refrig. I am assuming it is right next to the water filter in the refrig but could someone please save me the time it will take me to remove the old one?

Given that Maytag has such a terrible track record I will probably purchase the repair manual but want to save on shipping and order the defroster at the same time.

Thanks!
