Neptune MLE2000AYW - Works but stops between cycles

Hello!

We have the dreaded Neptune MLE2000AYW which worked great until -just- outside its warranty (a couple of years ago) when it began stopping dead before completion of a load (leaving everything in standing water). I've read about this problem all over the place, the class action suit, etc. Our repair guy did NOT find the usual control board problem... turned out to be a microswitch of some sort (the same kind I have inside my arcade control buttons and buy for like 19 cents). I think the repair cost us almost $300 and nothing about it qualified for any of Maytag's lawsuit coverage, etc. Pretty pissed, obviously.

Everything has worked fine until the last few months. The problem now is that the washer works fine except it stops between almost every cycle. Not EVERY cycle or every load... but MOST loads will stop on on MOST cycles right at the point where the new cycle begins. You just have to keep an eye on it and press the button again. And again. And again.

As I said, sometimes a load will complete entirely from start to finish. But more often that not it will have died between 1 & 2, then maybe 2 & 3, etc. Press the button a moment - it beeps and starts up. Might finish the whole load... might be stopped dead again at the next cycle. It's easy to forget, too, and come back hours later to it just sitting there.

Dryer works fine.

Any thoughts on what I can investigate? I've got the fundamental skills to disassemble and test parts...

Hi Aaron,

You may want to check your main control board now for burned spots on it now.

Its located at the top of your dryer, under the top dryer panel.

Sorry to be months replying to this... life has been busy and we've just been putting up with the issue described in my original post above.

Today was a rainy, quiet day and I finally had a chance to remove the Machine Control Board and examine it. Unfortunately, from what I can see, it looks virtually perfect. I don't see any scorching, burning or other oddness around the various components.

I'm about to reassemble everything now and see if anything has changed.

I'm attaching a link to detailed photos of the control board - front and back - if someone with a more experienced eye can glance and tell me if I'm overlooking something.

Assuming I reassemble and the problem hasn't gone away (and I don't know why it would short of a loose connection I'm inadvertently fixing in this process)... any other thoughts?

Hi Aaron,

It looks good, but you never know, I've replaced the machine control boards when they look perfect like yours and it fixes the problem.

Another issue with the Neptune's was the motor, they make a new motor conversion kit.

Whats the serial# of your washer? and I can check if yours requires it.

Thanks for the quick reply. The model is MLE2000AYW and the serial number I found inside the dryer door is 74860070CT.

Running a load now and, yes, it's stopping between each stage just as it has been for ages now. Irritating...

P.S. Is there any way to get a control board on speculation that is returnable? Possibly secured with a credit card or something? I hate the thought of dropping hundreds of dollars on speculation trying to find the source of the problem.

Yes, Get the machine control board first, the motor conversion kit also address's this same issue with the motor flaking out in mid-cycle. I always replace both as they go hand in hand with each other.
