Unhappy Maytag MDB8600AWW

We have Maytag Model : MDB8600AWW
Serial : 12877319AR
When the normal wash button is selected it will pump in water, then you hear a humm noise as if it is calling for something to do the next process then a pause in the sound then it repeats this 2 more times before it just cycles off, with water still in the unit. Then I hit the start/cancel button and it will pump water back out of the unit.

We have had the pump motor changed, seal kit # 99003341, then the control board #AP3672614 ( 99003162) and it still does the same thing. Any ideas as to what to look for now

Hi,

It sounds like your main wash motor is bad, has that been changed before as well, or just the drain motor?

Or you may have something in the chopper blade causing the motor to jam up.

Here's the repair manual for your model:

Here is a new one for your model, in case you need to order it:
Wash motor assembly with seal

I have replaced the pump motor #99003430 and the seal kit #99003341 in Feb. 2008. The unit was still not working so I ordered the control panel thinking that was the problem. Can you tell me is the chopper blade the Food cutter disc? Not sure what or where that is . Does this sit above the pump motor? I reviewed some of the service manual and found the Sales Floor Demo test, Field Service test and the Manual Function Test. Nothing showed up on those tests. I will say that i thought it was odd that the washer did sound like the water was moving around in the unit doing the Field Test something that I haven't heard in a while. So I guess my next resort is to do Load Readings to see if that will show what the problem could be. Thanks Jake for the links!

I did load readings on several componants. On the Vent Wax Motor I got a reading of 452 ohms. The book shows that I should get a reading of 296 ohms. The wash motor shows 5.2 ohms. The book shows it should read 3 to 4 ohms. Are either one of these enough to stop this dish washer from working?

No, I wouldn't think so, anyways you've already changed the wash motor.

Sounds like a bad control board then.

Here's the control board for your model:
Manufacturer's Number: 99003162

99003162

We have just put a new control board (# 99003162) on... and it is still unchanged. Would there be anything else that we might try? I've read all the service manual looking at other possibilities. Just boggles my mind what could be bad in this unit.

By the way Jake, "Thanks for all your advise thus far."

Sometimes when you've changed every part related to the problem your having, something else more technical is faulty, and basically the only way to pinpoint it is to have a seasoned Maytag appliance tech. come out, as they have more knowledge of what could be causing it.

I know when I was in this situation as you are, I would have another tech. come out with me to see whats wrong. Sometimes when you focus on the most common parts you loose site of other things less common, like a broken/cracked wire, a fused wire shorting to another wire.

Now for this issue, I've changed many common parts(wash motor/pump assemblies, control boards, control panels) and it has fixed it 99% of the time, but that 1% can be a dog to figure out.

Its probably time to contact Maytag to have a tech. come out. I hate saying that, as most consumers can fix their own appliances with the common parts, but I'm afraid your in that 1% that can't.
