Default Maytag MTB2156DEW - where's the timer located

First a BIG thank you to this forum!!

Unit = 10 yr old Maytag MTB2156DE ( freezer on top)

From what I can tell I have a "typical" problem. Freezer runs like a champ, food storage is at about 60 degrees. I took off the rear panel in the freezer area and everything looked like I was in the north pole ... every thing was snow covered.

I am letting everything thaw right now so I can further my testing. I can see the thermostat, I can see the defrost heater (kind of .... but where in the sam heck is the timer located on this bad boy?

Thanks in advance for all your time and efforts ...

Hi,

The defrost timer is inside of the inner control assembly that sits on the ceiling of the refrigerator section, where you control the temp. settings, Just get a screwdriver and turn it from underneath, you will see a slot hole to get to it: Its number 15.

Thanks Jake,

How would you test the timer to verify whether it's good or not?

Just turn the timer clockwise slowly till you hear a loud click then stop, It will turn the heater on to defrost the evaporator coil, the refrigerator will stay off for about 20-30 minutes, then come back on, if it does not turn back on after 30-35 minutes, then your defrost timer is bad.
