Default maytag neptune mde3000ayw major rumble going on

my Maytag netune electric dryer started rumbling loudly, so i took off the front to take a look inside and see what the hell was going on...... what i found was that the main drum on the inside of the dryerfree moving. and i can see the felt backing from the inside of the dryer everthing else is fine it heats up and it spins only slightly though. i can actually move the inside drum around with my hands. the outside frame part is stable and doesnt move around. at this point i stopped to do some research to find out if i can repair this of if its time to call in the professionals.

Thanks Marcey

Hi,

Is the rumbling sound constant? Does it rumble louder when you start the dryer and when it stops?

It sounds more like your blower wheel is stripped, very common on this model.

The drum inside should turn when you turn it with your hand.

Here's the blower wheel for your model:
Manufacturer part number 33001790 is RepairClinic item number 516674
33001790

Here's the online repair manual for your model:

you need new rollers/supports for drum. would replace both front(might be different style) and rear. try to get new roller posts or shafts- if not clean old ones good before putting new wheels on(use no grease or lube). might as well replace the belt- it's probably failing. jake's been working hard and i believe he may have been mistaken about diagnosis. it's not that hard of a job- UNPLUG IT 1st.

LOL, Yea, Lord knows I need a weeks vacation. After 4 years of non-stop answering questions.

Lets hope I'm wrong so I can start my vacation next week. Just kidding.

No tech. is perfect, but when I worked for Montgomery Wards for 11 years, the No.1 part that failed on these Maytag/Admiral dryers for the rumbling issue was the blower wheel, it wasn't unusual if I changed 3 or 4 a week back in the 1990's.

But like ivoid said, its also possible the rollers are shot.

Just in case, here's the roller assembly for your model you can order(you would need to order 2):
Manufacturer part number 12001541 is RepairClinic item number 400518
12001541

Here's the belt as well:
Part#33002535
Belt length 91 5/8”, width 3/8”, characteristics, 5 ridges, flat
33002535
