Lately my dryer has been getting way too hot on any cycle or setting i put it on. I tried air fluff and it was still getting things too hot. A few people suggested that i check for an obstruction so i took it appart and found that the boot going to the motor from the lint catcher duct had fallen half way and was blocking airflow. While i was in there i did a very thorough cleaning. Everything went back together fine and it opperated smoothly after it was together. But it was still overheating even on a fluff cycle.

Could one of the two thermostats be doing this if it were broken and needed replacing?? Could it be the temp selector on the control pannel? I would think on an air fluff setting it wouldnt even turn the heater on.

Here's the heating element parts diagram:


It sounds like your heating element#5 is grounding to the heater housing tube#3. Something may have gotten in the tube and causing it to ground and stay on continuously.

Unplug your dryer and check the element.

So i took it back appart. More than i was comfortable with but i figure it had to be done. You were dead right it was the heater that had touched the outside and grounded itself. Look at the last pic. I also did a descent cleaning on this unit. Cant go airing my dirty laundry all over the internet. (Budump- tsss)

Excellent, good job finding that the element wire was touching the heater housing.

Is there a recomended break in procedure for the new heating element. I thought id run it empty for 20 min on medium heat. Just to get that new equipment smell out.

Not in particular, but 20 minutes break-in time should be fine.
