Default Maytag MDB7601AWW display question

Maytag Dishwasher: MDB7601AWW
Age: 18 months

Problem: For a normal wash cycle the display has always shown "97" as in minutes. Now it shows "2H" as in 2 hours.

What I have done:
1) reset the circuit breaker (leaving off for a couple of minutes)
2) completed manual function test - results: appears OK
3) completed field service test - results: appears OK

The sheet that contains the function tests has the cycle descriptions inside. A normal wash goes from 97 to 117 minutes and I get how 117 minutes shows up as "2H".

The only thing that I have noticed over the last couple of weeks is that it doesn't appear to steam quite as much (relative term) at the end of the process and sometimes the dishes don't seem completely dry. I'm not sure if this last comment is completely valid or not.

Any thoughts on the time difference in the display? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi raythepa,

Did you do both the Manual Function Test and Field Service Test on page#5 here:

Ok, just saw that you did.

I would now ohm your heating element with an ohm meter, normal reading will be 30 ohms or less.

If it ohms good, then its likely a control board problem.

Here's the cheapest control board I found for your model:
Manufacturer's Number: 12002710

So now i'm into new territory, do i use the ohm meter directly on the heating element or will i need to expose the control board and use the test procedure on Page 4 of the document you sent? If yes, is the schematic on page 6 the one to follow.

For me i'm considering this a DIY project. I should be able to do what your suggesting without deferring to a service call?

Ray

p.s I'm well aware that I proceed with caution at my own peril. Sounds serious but I just wanted to get that out there.

I figured it out ohms were good (1-2, barely moved off zero).

Have replaced panel and will purchase control board. While I'm waiting for the part i will also contact Maytag just in case they will give me credit since the unit is only 18 months old.

Either way is fine.

Ok, sounds good, let us know what happens when you get the control board.
