Question Maytag Maytag MSD2142AR not cooling

After reading through the threads I haven't seen anything on what this might be. I've checked to make sure the coils were not frozen. (i had this happen about 2 years ago)

The fan is running and I can hear a ticking sound from the back/bottom like something is trying to turn on. Maybe a switch of some sort? I just don't know. Help please!!

Did the evaporator coils in your freezer have any frost on them at all?

Which fan do you hear? the evaporator(freezer) fan or the condenser fan thats located in the back of your refrigerator next to the compressor, you would need to pull your refrigerator out from the wall to check that one. Also feel the compressor to see if its on or warm/hot.

There was no frost at all on the freezer coils. Both fans are running. The one in the freezer (I can feel the air flowing into it.) and also the fan that pulls air through the condenser. I just pulled the back off and the sound seems to be coming from the relay switch on the side of the compresser. It doesn't look burned though. The compresser is warm/hot.

Ok,

Then you'll need to ohm the overload and relay for continuity. Make sure your refrigerator is unplugged first!

#5 is the overload, #4 is the relay here:

Then take off the overload and relay, I use a flathead screwdriver to pry them off the compressor, then get a volt/ohm meter and put it on the ohm setting, then test both for continuity.

Whats the serial# of your refrigerator? as they make 2 different types for this model.

OK. I think I can borrow a ohm meter..... and hopefully find info on the web to figure out how to use it.

The serial # for my frig is 14807443YM

This site walked me through 3 different repairs on my old washer. I was really praying that this would be easier.

All you do to test it is take them off the compressor, put your ohm meter probes on the terminal ends of the overload device and see what the ohm meter reads, it should read 0 ohms, same with the relay, but with the relay you put the ohm meter probes inside the 2 holes that it came off from the 2 compressor pins.

Mark down on paper were you take the wires off both the overload device and start relay.

Also if you shake the relay and it rattles, you found the bad part.

Here's your start relay you can order:
Manufacturer part#61005504 is RepairClinic item#894643

Here's your overload device you can order:
Manufacturer part#61006295 is RepairClinic item#1204586

OK..... I did all that. (and learned how to use an ohm meter)

I wrote every color wire down with where they went. My own little schematic. I even took pictures of it with my digital camera just to make sure.

The problem? Well the replacement part doesn't fit in the white plastic housing like the old part did. Sooooo.... although I know where the wire to the overload part goes..... and also one of the wires to the relay goes, because it's smaller then the other..... I DON'T know where the third wire goes.

P.S. I added a little to the tip jar for you. I know it isn't much but considering theres no way I could *EVER*afford a repairman to come repair my frig I hope it helps you at least a little. . You've helped me more then you could possibly know. My son and I both are very tired of living out of coolers.

Ok, so were you able to get the new overload and relay on correct?

Which plastic housing? The #7 cover in the parts diagram above?

Here's the wiring diagram for your model:

The Blue wire goes to the overload, the orange goes to the relay.

What color is the wire that you don't know were it goes?

The replacement has the terminals numbered. The orange wire can only go in one place (#4) on the relay because of the size of the terminal. The wire in question is white.

The problem is that there are three places that it can go. #1 #2 and #3.

I'll choose door #2 Monty!

White goes on #2.
