Default Maytag Legacy series dryer walks

I have a "commericial size" Maytag Legacy series dryer, purchased less than a year ago from Home Depot to replace the Maytag dryer I'd had for 25 years.

Right now, with minimal use (approximately two loads per week), I am having two problems:

first, the blasted thing "walks" - it won't maintain balance adjustments. Yes, my basement floor is not even, since it has a drain in the laundry area, but I was under the impression that the "adjustable" legs on the dryer were to be used to be able to balance it. Yes, I'm using a level (with three bubbles) to balance it. When it walks, it vibrates and tosses whatever might be on top of it on to the floor. Any suggestions?

second, I have never in my life seen a dryer that could tie king size bed sheets literally into knots. Or, in the alternative, tumble two sheets into the tightest wadded ball of wet material that takes two or three people to untangle. Since this is a "large capacity, commercial" dryer, two king size sheets and two or four pillowcases do not fill the drum area - not even close. Any suggestions? Or is this little trick due to the fact that the dryer is unbalanced????

My last Maytage dryer (may it rest in peace) had two service calls - only two - in 25 years. It dried clothes without frying them, did what it was designed to do and never gave me a problem. The new one - I don't have time to stand by it and untangle sheets every ten minutes in order to get them dry. Life is too short.

    Jake:

The Walking Maytage Dryer is not stackable. It is a stand alone unit: a "heavy duty commerical quality/oversize capacity/auto-dry control/ etc Legacy Series" dryer - such is emblazoned along the bottom of the control panel.

The model number is SDG305DAWW, serial number 17464142ER.

It is sitting on a concrete floor in my basement, near a drain, ergo the floor is sloped toward the drain. Drain opening is about a foot away from the right front corner of the dryer.

    Hi all,

    SDG305DAWW
    Amana built dryer.

I have never in my life seen a dryer that could tie king size bed sheets literally into knots.
    Common on these dryers.

When it walks, it vibrates and tosses whatever might be on top of it on to the floor.
Blower fan out of balance, something caught in the blower fan? I had one similier that thumped when running ( light vibration ), new motor and fan blower worked much better.

Yup, thats very true Jeff, I have seen lots of dryers vibrate alot when something is stuck in the blower wheel, Or if it came with a defective blower wheel or motor.

The thing about wadding up large sheets is a problem on some dryers. I'm taking an uneducated guess that it might be caused by the way the internal fins are designed. Do they go straight accross the drum, or do they have some sort of curve in them? I was talking to my wife one time about a dryer with 2 way tumbling action and she said that was so it wouldn't wrap up the sheets. Makes sense to me now.
