Default [FIXED] Maytag MSD2356AEW Fridge not cold enough.

The refrigerator side is not getting cold enough, the temp on my digital thermometer says 43 to 49 degrees. I had the repairman take a look at it, and he took off the panels on the back of the freezer side ( the freezer is working perfectly) and behind the panel where the coils are there was a block of ice, and the small opening where the cold air goes into the fridge side was also all iced up. He got out a hot air gun and melted the ice for about 20 minutes. Closed everything back up and told me it was ok now.
However the cold air coming through the small opening on the top left of the fridge side is barely trickling out and the digital thermometer inside the fridge says its around 45 degrees. I think their is something wrong with the fan or the controller for the fan. And the freezer temperature is around 4 degrees.
Any pictures and any help is appreciated.

Hi,

Was the evaporator coil in the freezer completely frosted up or just a block of ice on part of it?

Did he take the auto-damper housing assembly out of your refrigerator section and check the vent were the air comes in?

The auto-damper housing assembly is #1 and the air vent tunnel is #15 here:

Here's the auto-damper housing assembly for your model:
Manufacturer's Number: 61005993

icon61005993

Check your refrigerator door gasket for air leaks, make sure the refrigerator and freezer door gaskets are sealing properly. Air leaks cause condensation in that auto-damper housing assembly and air vent tunnel and makes ice form there and then on your evaporator coil in your freezer.

The evaporator coil was pretty much all ice, he did not take the auto damper housing assembly out.
The air vent tunnel #15 was all iced up as well.
The freezer door gaskets are in perfect condition (the wife got mad at him when he said that she was not closing the freezer door all the way).

But again after he put it back together you could hardly feel the air coming out of the air vent tunnel.

Ok, You'll either need to call him back to fix it properly, or get you money back.

Then Contact Maytag to send a competent service provider to come out, or fix it yourself.

To fix it yourself you will need to remove that inside back freezer panel again, and make sure all the ice is out, get a flashlight or something bright to shine in there, as the ice can be lodged way in the back were you can't see it.

Then you'll need to remove the auto-damper housing assembly and check that air vent for ice as well.

OK, today I had the repairman come back to my house and check the fridge, he said its either the damper or the defrost board, so he replaced the defrost board and turned the screw on the damper clockwise about 1 full turn.

Its been about 8 hours and my digital thermometer in the refridge says 45.2 degrees.
How long should it take to reach temperature? Im not sure its fixed.

Thanks Jake for helping out, well I checked it this morning and its 44.7 degrees in the fridge. I think it should be between 34 - 38 degrees, so it's still not working like its supposed to. Any ideas what I can do next?

Well, you can call the tech. back or fix-it-yourself by doing the steps I mentioned in my post#4 above.

What exactly does the screw on the damper control do? The repairman turned it one full turn clockwise. Should I back it off to where it was?

Without knowing what that screw does im not sure if I should leave what he did alone.

That screw should have never of been turned, its set at the factory. And I don't know the reason why the factory left the screw in it.

Yes, turn it back to were it was.

I'm my 20+ years of appliance repair, I've never once needed to turn that screw.

If the auto-damper is malfunctioning, I always order a new one for the customer, and never have a call back.
