Question Maytag DWU9921AAX water in tub with or without a cycle

my d/w has recently had a few instances where, after several days of non-use, i'd open it and find a few inches of icky water (that didn't smell so grand either) in the bottom. I'd press the "Drain/Off" button, and it would click, then pause, then drain for the 2 min drain cycle. One day I ran a load of dishes as usual, and the next morning opened the dishwasher to find that a.) my soap didn't appear to have released, and b.) there was a bunch of water (clear, i.e. the water that came out during the cycle to wash/rinse) in the tub. Pressed the Drain button.... click.... nothing. The timer display showed the minutes counting down but nothing was happening. So we turned off the breaker, suctioned all the water out, disassembled as far down as the chopper plate, but couldn't figure out how to get further down. Besides... didn't know what we were looking for. then, turned the breaker back on (hoping it would maybe have reset something), ran the "rinse only & hold" cycle... and voila... WATER IN THE TUB. We did clean and scour all the parts we took out (yuck!). one thing we are doing is trying to get the drain hose hooked up higher under the counter (whoever installed it left it laying on the floor of cupboard so it didn't "rise" until it went up to the disposal connection). Tried looking for the diagnostic sheet behind the foot panel (it's not there) so not sure what that might have told me. How can I tell if the hose is clogged somewhere between washer and disposal? sorry for the long post but thank you!

Hi,

You can take the drain hose off and use an air compressor to blow through it, or take it outside and use a garden hose to run water through it.

But it definitely sounds like you need a high loop in your drain hose before it goes into your disposal to keep the dirty disposal water from siphoning back into your dishwasher.

Will try that-- getting it off the back of the washer will be the pain in the rear (no pun intented) because whoever installed the washer tiled the floor AFTER installing (so i'll really have to wrestle it out . I am not even hearing a hum or sound to indicate it's trying to drain (other than the "click" that usually happens when the drain cycle is about to start); would a clog preclude any sort of humming or anything? Thanks Jake!!

Yes, thats a common issue that tile companies don't pay attention to till "after the fact"

So I'm not sure what to tell you, unless you want to get the tile company to come back and see if they can somehow make it so the dishwasher will come out.

If its not even humming or nothing, sounds like your control board is bad.

I just checked the control board part, and I was shocked that they no longer make it.

So, instead of wasting your time on a dishwasher that you can't get common parts for, I'd save your repair money for a new dishwasher.

ugh i was hoping for a part or a DIY fix.... sigh... new d/w isn't in the financial books right now (stupid economy lol) so I guess we'll save money on it altogether by handwashing LOL!

i wont say there is NO hum... it's almost inaudible... just no water moving out. arrrrgh. thanks anyway!!

Did you check down in the top part of your upper pump assembly where your impeller is located? you may have something jamming up when the motor reverses for the drain.

Here's the parts diagram of your pump/motor assembly:

the impeller is #13

Try to turn it both ways when you get to it.

Here's the motor pump assembly for your model:

we only pulled apart as far down as the chopper plate... of course we would need to go ONE STEP FURTHER! Going to try that now (at least all the parts are clean!)

Cool

well reassembled all... still not draining (all parts moving fine, no hoses clogged). Oh well, looks like we are in for some elbow grease and handwashing for the time being!

Yes, unfortunately, its possibly your motor/pump assembly is bad.

I can't find an online tech. data sheet for this model, or I could post it for you.
