Flashing 9 on panel, buttons not working
I read all of the posts on this issue before I did anything to my dishwasher. The flashing 9 is from the 9 minutes of a 'rinse only' cycle. It seems the button is stuck on, which it was. We hand washed dishes for 2 days while I researched the problem, and when I decided to take off the door panel to look for corrosion, I noticed that the flashing 9 was gone. I found the control board was conformally coated to prevent issues with moisture, the front panel connection looked clean when I removed the ribbon cable, but I did notice the screws that held the door panel at the top were rusted. I put it all back together and ran a load, it worked perfectly. As soon as I opened the door to unload the dishes, the flashing 9 was back and no other buttons would work. I thought about the rust on those top screws, and looked at the seal and knife edge of the door. It was caked with crusty soap residue and I noticed that if steam were to leak out of the top of the seal (thus rusty screws), it would flow into the unsealed seam between the inner and outer door panel where the control panel is, perhaps causing condensation and creating the shorted button. It woud explain why 2 days on non use temporarily fixed the problem. I used an old toothbrush, spoon, and vinegar to clean the seal and the knife edge. We hand washed dishes for 2 more days to give the panel time to dry out. My dishwasher has worked flawlessly for over a week now. I wanted to share this story to help others deal with what seems to be a common issue. Jake has helped me alot, as have all of the members who describe thier problems and what actions they took to solve them.
