Default jenn-air cve3400 cooktop dual burner inop

I have a jenn-air radiant downdraft flat cooktop model cve3400 and the dual burner is inop. All the other burners work fine and the hot indicators work fine. The power on light next to the dual burner switch is on all the time and stays on with switch on or off. When I turn the switch on for small or large part of burner the power light stays on but the burner does not heat. This unit is approx ten years old. I dont have the book that came with it so any help would be nice. I thought about changing the switch but wanted to post first. I am not sure how the switch comes out or if there is a control board inside. Thanks for any info you may have.

Hi,

You should have either a "B" or "W" after the last "0" in your model#.

You would need a volt meter to see if your getting 240 volts at that duel burner when the burner switch is on, thats the only way to tell if its the burner switch or the burner itself.

You can get a cheap volt meter at Radio Shack if you don't have one.

Thanks for the reply. The cooktop is black so it would be the "B". Also I do have a volt meter to check it. Being a dual burner will it have 2 or 4 wires and could both they be ohmed out if unpluged? One more item is there any how to remove/replace burner or switch. Again thanks for your help.
P.S. You helped fix 2 washers and one dishwasher before. My wife loves this site.

Thanks,

Its likely your burner switch, Its abit tricky to get access to these on the cooktops, and I didn't find an online repair manual for this model.

But yes, you can look at where your burner wires connect to on the switch and ohm the switch terminals when the switch is in the ON position, but make sure the breaker is off to your cooktop.

Ohm it for continuity, 0 ohms means good.

Here's the dual burner switch for your model:

Default still need help

Jake I got a new switch and opened the cooktop up. The burners ohmed good. As a matter of fact i found the old switch would still work after i removed it and adjusted the center shaft. The old switch is broken at the center shaft. The cooktop replacement switch is alittle different from the old one. The old switch wires (5 in all) were labled 1 thru 5. The new switch contacts are not in the same relation to the old. Also the new switch is labled P, L1, L2, H1,H2. So it leaves me guessing as to what is what. In the cooktop I have a Black and red power in wires a white power light indicator wire and a purple and blue to burner. I called amana and they gave no info. I found no wiring print in cooktop and if i did I dont know what the new switch hookups would be. The new switch did not have any info or power hookup diagram in the package and the appliance supply house had no info. The switch you show as the replacement looks like the replacement i got and is different from the original. Does the one you listed come with any hookup list?

Thanks

Jake thanks for finding the wiring print. The wiring print shows the color of the wires and the switch numbers on the old one. I still am guessing when it comes to the new switch. The new switch did not come with any internal diagram or any hook-up list. The terminals on new switch do not have the same numbers the old one had. I already popped the breaker once and dont want to burn anything else out. If you have access to a new switch can you see if it has a hookup list or if it is numbered like my old of new switch. Tried to call the company (jenn air) and once again no help. Also tried to call whirlpool due to switch said genuine whirlpool part on it. Whirlpool was no help and said they did not know anything about a jenn air. Does whirlpool make jenn air or there parts? Thanks for your time.

Whirlpool owns Jenn-air, I don't know why they told you they didn't know anything about it.

You probably need to go to your local appliance parts store in your area and they can assist you in the new switch wiring. I don't have any documents on it myself.
