Default Maytag MZD2766GE* ice maker stopped working

We went on vacation for Thanksgviing and turned off the main water line to our house. When we got back 6 days later and turned the water back on, we discovered that the ice maker was no longer working.

I think there's no water getting to it. We can hear it operating/moving the little arms up and down, but no ice is being produced.

There seemed to be air in the water lines after turning the water back on. That is, when I ran the water in the kitchen or other sinks, the stream would "spit" a little, as it cleared the air from the lines. But it's been several days now. There is no more air in the lines, but the ice maker still isn't working.

Please help...my wife needs her gin & tonics!

I found this thread which seemed to be a similar problem, but I didn't see any resolution.

Hi Mike,

The reason that happens is whenever you turn the water off to your refrigerator or house, you also have to turn your ice maker off, as it will try to make ice without any water going to it, thus it builds up an ice clog in your fill spout#34 here:

You'll need to clear your fill spout, its located in the back of your ice maker.

You'll probably need to take the ice maker out to get access to it. Use a hair dryer to unclog it.

Jake, thanks again for the guidance, but I managed to fix the issue without having to take anything apart.

After delaying a fix for over a month now, my wife couldn't take it anymore. So I realized I could move everything (food) in the freezer to our garage freezer and then turn the setting for the freezer temp all the way to off. I did that and left the freezer door open for about 6 hours (putting a lot of towels in and around the freezer in case of lots of melting). Then I turned the setting back up to normal, and the ice maker is working again! I think that was a lot less painful than taking anything apart.

Thanks for your help, I was definitely going to follow your instructions if thawing it out didn't work!
